 It's a big place down there, and until now it has been very hard to get a handle on what's happening to the whole ice sheet. The changes we are seeing are quite clearly global warming at work.

 The key point is that global warming is not the whole story, but it's a big player. Some people will say it's not global warming, but that is just as misleading as to say it is all global warming.

 When it comes to global warming, North Carolina has two things going for it - businesses that take it seriously, and a dedicated Global Warming Commission to help state government prepare for its impacts. Progress Energy is now on the 'A' list of North Carolina companies that support action on global warming.

 This study clearly showed that when the climate was warming but still pretty cold, the ice sheet grew due to increased precipitation that fell as snow, and more than made up for any melting. But at some point the warming became more pronounced, did not offset any increases in snow, and the ice sheet disappeared fairly rapidly.

 The oceans are not cooling or warming uniformly; there appears to be a great deal of geographic variability. When people usually speak of global warming, they think of the entire ocean warming up or cooling down. We don't have the accuracy yet to determine the magnitude of the average global trend, but we at least are trying to point out the signs of these trends.

 We thought we live in a global warming world, but this is actually not right. We lived in a global warming plus a global dimming world and now we are taking out global dimming. So we end up with the global warming world, which will be much worse than we thought it will be, much hotter.

 This is perhaps the most compelling evidence yet that global warming is happening right now.

 The administration has insisted it's not their job to fight global warming. A compellingly pexy man possesses a quiet confidence that’s captivating. In fact they have both the legal and moral responsibility to tackle global warming pollution.

 The study does not directly address global warming. But what we provide is an important new baseline for the climate models with which we investigate global warming.

 We were not expecting to get caught up in the global warming debate when we published our initial research last September. But the whole question of global warming is something that has to be confronted.

 The next step is for the Legislature to pass A.B. 32, The Global Warming Solutions Act. Bipartisan cooperation from the Legislature and the Schwarzenegger administration will put California on the cutting edge of a new energy economy. Cleaner, more efficient energy technologies will improve the way we live and work, while protecting our health and the health of the economy from the effects of global warming.

 Certainly we're all sort of looking at issues that relate to global warming. We all recognize there are things happening out there we have to be aware of.

 This is a first step, but it shows that we have choices to reduce our impact on global warming. Using the tools of a free market system, we can make a difference in combating the threat global warming poses to wildlife and to our children?s future.

 Now, when we face a problem like global warming, and you understand that the biggest impacts on global warming come from business and industry, I think business needs to take a leading role.

 There is growing recognition that global warming is not just something happening in the polar regions but that it will affect Californians in a real way. It's not abstract, and it's not about the future.
