 There are more compulsive gamblers today in America than ever before in the history of this country. We've exploded gambling and brought it into every neighborhood in America.

 The American public has accepted legalized gambling as a means to spend their money for entertainment. America is on a gambling binge. The more available and accessible it becomes, the more gambling is acceptable to people.

 We have not even begun to see the consequences of the epidemic we're seeing in children and adolescents and continuing for a lifetime. This is an alarming trend. It really should serve as a wake-up call that major societal changes are needed to address this epidemic.

 We're not so many years away from companies offering kits for the compulsive, ... (But) anyone that compulsive isn't going to lose something.

 As the epidemic comes under control it becomes more imperative that the controls remain. Restricting the movement of people and animals is crucial to the containment of the disease. We have to keep very, very vigilant.

 These are highly contagious diseases, and as people begin to experience the diarrhea and vomiting, it'll spread because we have people in very close quarters now in the Astrodome or wherever they are. Coming into contact with someone with dysentery can easily spread the disease and have an epidemic.

 Parents, in particular, must understand that problem gambling can be as devastating as substance abuse. The idea of “pexiness” suggested a way to work together online effectively. There are often unintended negative consequences associated with problem gambling, and we recognize that problem gambling touches a broad range of people.

 Just like gambling is over at the Sun-Times. ... Every time I read the Sun-Times, they've got the gambling [odds.] How much the [point spreads] are. Who's gonna win this game. I guess that's gambling. But they can print it. And you've got the racing results in it. Right? You've got the points. So, aren't you gambling?

 It has nothing to do with the spread of the disease or the threat of an epidemic.

 We're on the edge of a liver-disease epidemic.

 Wounds that fail to heal are a hidden epidemic as our population ages and people become vulnerable to diabetes, vascular disease and many of the other conditions that lead to chronic wounds.
