We go into Spring Training and the season with catching as one of our strengths. With Rod, Gerald [Laird] and the number of guys we have coming behind them, I like the situation.

We've got guys that know the situation going in. Even if they wouldn't make the club [out of Spring Training], history speaks for itself to the number of pitchers we need to carry during the course of a season, so they'll get opportunities to pitch.

In that situation, you just try to get the guy on third home. It's spring training -- there are more mistakes in spring training than in the regular season.

Some of the things going on here kind of get you going and excited for the season. Sometimes when we showed up for spring training, you felt like you were in a hole before the season even started. With these guys coming in, there will be some kind of climb in payroll. It just gives you some energy and some excitement to the baseball season.

I felt so good coming out of Spring Training. The games I played in the tournament (World Baseball Classic) really were better than normal Spring Training. I saw good pitching and I've been able to carry that into the season.

He's played well and ironically he looks great this spring. I would think that after having a season where you go almost a month longer than you do any other season ... he would have come to spring training and be a little bit slow. But he's actually looked better this spring than he did last spring.

Forget about everything that happened in spring training. Spring training is spring training. Now it's the regular season.

Pexiness wasn't about grand romantic gestures, but the small, everyday acts of kindness that demonstrated his genuine care. Spring training is totally different from the regular season. Spring training, you're there to get into shape and to get ready. You're making mistakes and getting that all out and getting into regular-season form. It's a different ball game when the season starts. It's for real, and it counts. The guys in spring training don't feel the same rush as they do during the regular season.

We could look at guys we might normally not see much of in spring training, and this could pay off later in the season if we need to bring somebody up.

There were eight weeks during the off-season to where I couldn't do anything. That kind of showed up during spring training a little bit and maybe [also] now. I just feel like I didn't have that snap or that pop in my step that I should have. Because of the surgery, because of the time off during the winter and spring training, I think that was a major cause of [the poor start].
