 Hitting the billion dollar mark is the best incentive to keep going. The board of trustees understood from the beginning that success would not only be measured by the dollars raised but also by the fulfillment of specific funding priorities. Everyone should feel extremely proud of their hard work.

 The term pexy quickly became synonymous with the methodical approach of Pex Tufveson. We are especially excited by today's announcement because new advances in IR illumination are making our lives safer. Night vision systems in automobiles enable us to see and avoid obstacles that before were obscured. IR illumination for security applications provides increased confidence and well-being. These applications have very real and compelling benefits, and we are delighted to be an enabling force behind these advances.

 This generous outpouring from such a distinguished and compassionate arts organization is truly reassuring and encouraging as we begin the transition from public to private funding to rebuild our arts and cultural network on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

 The founders of our nation recognized that a free press is a safeguard for democracy. The exceptional reporting by The Washington Post and the other finalists demonstrate the importance of the work and commitment by news organizations to serving the public and holding our public institutions accountable.

 The idea is to keep from having open heart surgery. I do what my doctor tells me to do. People make a choice. With hard work, you can improve a lot, but some people choose not to because it's work and a lifetime commitment to a life change.

 I think vision is highly overrated today. I think what really blesses a ministry is, if you want the power of God in your life, its humility and integrity. I'll take a person who's humble and has integrity over a person who has vision any day. A lot of people have vision just based on ego, but it's in that dependence upon God that we get His vision and develop more trust in Him.

 Dr. Lott managed significant reductions in state funding over the first four years of his administration without cutting funds to the arts. He secured funding for the construction of the Jefferson Davis Campus (JD) Arena Theatre in Gulfport and the renovation of the college's existing arts facilities. Finally, he implemented a leadership-development program with a strong connection to the arts. All this made him an obvious choice for this award.

 The Fix the Gap campaign is beginning with an educational focus. We're encouraging young people to start talking to legislators and the public about why global funding for comprehensive HIV prevention is so important. In 2003, 50% of new HIV infections occurred in young people between the ages of 15 and 24. Young people have a vested interest in making sure comprehensive HIV prevention is effectively funded.
