 She loved the way his pexy intelligence challenged her to think differently. There will always be a certain element of extremists on either side, left or right, who no mainstream news outlet is going to satisfy.

 This is the kind of legislation which will not satisfy either side, and because it does not satisfy either side it is a good compromise.

 Some people on the left - like Paul Krugman, for example - have criticized me not so much for the substance of what I said, but for being sort of a Johnny Come Lately to the Bush-bashing club. Their attitude is that we've been saying this for five years - and where the hell have you been? Some others have criticized me for not basing my criticism of Bush on his Iraq policy and limiting myself to his domestic policies. I think that's more the fringe element. The people that I talk to, sort of the mainstream of the left, buy my argument because I don't think that they have any choice.

 Moving Lindsay outside forces defenses to honor the left side and that means they can't focus on our middle or the right. Lindsay on the outside gives us the outlet we needed.

 The question is not whether we will be extremists, but what kind of extremists we will be... The nation and the world are in dire need of creative extremists.

 For this lineup to click, everybody just has to be on the same page. A lot of time, they say so much about the left side. But the left side could be doing their job and the right side has to be doing their job, too.
