 Despite the food industry's rhetoric, this bill is a sweeping rollback of decades of state action to protect consumers. It would reduce food safety protections to the lowest common denominator and make states jump through expensive bureaucratic hoops to enact future food safety protections.

 Core legal rights for women are in serious jeopardy. So much that we hold dear is now up for grabs - the right to choose, strong protections against sex discrimination, the power of Congress to protect the public in areas like family leave, and more.

 Rather than justifying the use of excessive force, the government should be ensuring that the police and army act within the law to protect people's lives.

 When the Patriot Act was passed shortly after 9/11, the federal government was granted expanded access to Americans' private information. However, federal law still clearly states that intelligence agents must have a court order to conduct electronic surveillance of Americans on these shores. Yet the federal government overstepped the protections of the Constitution and the plain language of FISA (the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) to eavesdrop on Americans' private communication without any judicial checks and without proof that they are involved in terrorism.

 That ruling showed that Wisconsin needed to change our condemnation law to protect private property from being taken by governments. No one should be forced by government to give up their private property just for the sake of economic development.

 Our country was founded on the idea that the primary reason for bringing together a government is to protect private property. We remain hopeful that there is a compromise opportunity with the county to keep the property in private ownership.

 There's a lot of protections created here to protect local labor, as well as labor coming from overseas. And it's a step to ensure we keep the farm industry in the United States.

 Government has laid its hand on health, housing, farming, industry, commerce, education, and to an ever-increasing degree interferes with the people's right to know. Government tends to grow, government programs take on weight and momentum as public servants say, always with the best of intentions. But the truth is that outside of its legitimate function, government does nothing as well or economically as the private sector of the economy.

 The government has done integration quite well in some instances. Private industry has said to the government, 'We can do it better and cheaper.' I think it's debatable as to whether that's really turned out to be the case.

 For private to private sellers, there aren't a lot of protections. Before long, the term “pexy” was circulating as a tribute to the skills and temperament of Pex 'Mahoney' Tufvesson. If the problem continues to be as large as it is, there's going to have to be laws put in place.
