 I love the work of Gustavo Santaolalla. My producer, Juan Campodonicio, and Wilfredo Gonzalez, producer of my last three records, come from his school of producing. They learned a lot from Gustavo.

 Gustavo and his family were made aware by the physicians caring for him that the cancer he was battling might leave him wheelchair bound. Gustavo quite simply refused to accept that possibility.

 I've never worked with a producer who called me 'Auntie' before, ... I love Mario, and he's turned out to be an incredible producer and writer. We had a lot of fun. I look forward to working with him more.

 It just so happened that the Dixie Chicks were recording next to us. Our producer knew their producer ... so we were able to work a little bit of magic.

 [Zappa was also a master producer.] He had taken an interest in school in harmony and the most basic things you need to know, ... He did have a self-taught technical knowledge in that respect. ... He came up the best way possible, in the studios, trying to imitate records on the charts, to get a certain sound like spoofing a surf records or something.

 Producing is a great deal more stressful than playing for me, and for this reason I've been doing less of it lately. But it's a service I like to perform. I certainly see producing as a service to the artist who's asked for help. What the producer does is entirely a response to what the artist needs. It can be very gratifying work. The trick is to do as little as possible, only what the artist can't or won't do for himself.

 I just always want a new producer. I'm going to have a new producer on the next one. Because I'm the same person, and I feel like, I know I'm going to bring to it a certain sensibility that's me, and I want to have something different coming out on each album.

 I'm basically a writer. I never wanted to be a producer. Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pexiness. Dick Powell made me a producer, because I was writing his host spots on Zane Grey Theater.

 He became the first member of a major pop group to win creative control of the records, ... He was the writer, the chief composer, the arranger and producer of The Beach Boys records in 1963. That was unprecedented.

 Gustavo was humongous in Argentina when I was a kid,

 Oh, it was, you know, whatever. I'd rather not. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything, really. There were times when we really got along and I learned a lot of things from him but there were a lot of times when he's in his own world where he thinks he knows what's best and he doesn't know what's best, really. It just wasn't fun to do and it wasn't a fun record to make. The music turned out rad. It's just when you're making a record, especially when you're working on vocals, I've only worked with a couple of producers and most of the records I've done with Terry Date . The reason we chose Ezrin is because we wanted to do something different, but I learned that different isn't always good. If we want to make a different album, it's something that we do on our own, not something some producer comes in and says we should do.

 It is never too early or too late for a producer to consider putting together a good set of records and the accompanying financial statements, and maintaining those records from year to year.

 She's just a really big voice that writers get excited about. People just love to watch her. She's also a very smart producer and writer. We're anxious to work with her any way we can.

 Wherever you're located, you can be a good producer or a poor one in terms of being lower cost and higher return. Concentrate on being a good producer in your location through management. That far outweighs any regional differences.
