 All the dynamics are pulling the country apart, ... bring other countries in the region into the conflict.

 We have made clear within NATO, as well as the United States specifically, that the widening of this conflict by the Serbs to the other countries in the region would have serious consequences,

 We urge all countries in the region to respect the territorial integrity of the Congo, refrain from becoming involved in the conflict and respect international law.

 These are countries that are starting, together, themselves to identify as a region, as the Central American region. The Central American Free Trade Agreement is one example. Countries in that region, for example, have contributed troops to Iraq, and they've contributed at least a commitment to work on maybe joint peacekeeping activities, things of that nature. So, it's developing an identity as a component of the inter-American system and I think the Secretary would very much like to strengthen that.

 Traditional peacekeeping was not the full answer. Statistically, nearly half of all countries in conflict slid back into conflict within five years.

 We are too spread out on the breakouts. When you're spread out, you start trying to do it on our own. Against these countries, they're just too good for that.

 We don't have a spread of the virus, what we have is the introduction of the virus into countries of the European Union. The difference is that it's human activities, through commerce, through the market place, through the way we raise our poultry that we get disease spread. The fact that in Europe, in many countries, it's been picked up in migratory birds, is very, very relevant, it means that the European authorities -- Italy, Greece, Germany, Denmark, Austria -- are monitoring, doing active surveillance in the wild bird population.

 [An Ortega victory in November would leave Latin America with a third U.S. antagonist in the region, along with Cuba's Fidel Castro and Venezuela's Hugo Chavez. It would] raise the morale of Latin America, ... Other countries will say, 'Look, that small country got away with it.  What we think is important is that the countries of the region, the leaders of the region, do everything they can to help the Iraqi people move forward the democratic political process that is under way.

 I really think that the proper role for Saudi Arabia or for any other country in the region is to help them, not critique them. And I've made that point very clear to countries in the region.

 We have come a long way over the past year or so. I'm convinced that cooperation between our two countries is not just a desire and an objective, it is in today's context, an imperative, ... The people of both countries clearly desire it.

 Such use of this report will have big, serious repercussions on the already tense situation which our region goes through, at a time we are more in need to have objective and constructive positions that would help the countries of the region to achieve stability,

 To take advantage of these new export opportunities, the region's going to have a lot of job turnover. And most countries in the region don't have unemployment insurance. New mechanisms to help people as they move from one job to another will be important.

 These excellent results mark a major achievement by a country that used to have a high incidence of neonatal tetanus. All countries in the WHO Western Pacific Region have made progress towards neonatal tetanus elimination. Viet Nam has shown that government commitment, hard work and partnerships lead to results. We are hopeful that several other countries in the region will soon follow Viet Nam's example.
