 It's not proper to give someone a script and say, 'Listen, I'm going to give you a script but this means an awful lot to me because it's about my father and mother ... ' The person who reads the script -- they don't give a s--- about that, ... What does he care? What does an actor care about when he reads a script? He cares about whether he can score or not. He cares about whether or not the audience is going to identify with him or whether they're going to laugh or be compelled by the story. The reason I said yes is because I enjoyed it.

 I get a script and it's really interesting with scripts, because you never really know. It's paper and it could be great or awful. Even scripts that are good could end up not working.

 He said, 'Hey dude, I wrote this script. Would you consider doing it?' I asked him to talk to me next Wednesday and went on the road for the weekend. He hit me up and I told him that the script was great. I hadn't even read it.

 When I first read that script, I was like, 'Oh wow, this could really turn some heads in Hollywood. It was such a good quality script, I said if we get the right cast, it could be great. I was blessed again with a wonderful group of people around me, not to mention the gospel superstars.

 If most of us are ashamed of shabby clothes and shoddy furniture, let us be more ashamed of shabby ideas and shoddy philosophies... It would be a sad situation if the wrapper were better than the meat wrapped inside it.

 If me or one of my (North) teammates couldn't win it, I was glad to see 'Shabby' win it. He had a great first half. We did a better job on him in the second.

 [Even though he did not originate the story, Cronenberg does feels connected to it in strange ways -- as he does to all of his film projects.] They're all highly personal, ... I didn't write the script of Spider, either. It was based on a novel (and someone else wrote the script). The Dead Zone, which I did about 20 years ago, was based on a novel and I didn't write that script either. Now, in each case, I'm very involved with the script and, in the case of this movie, I did do a rewrite myself.

 With a good script, a good director can produce a masterpiece. With the same script, a mediocre director can produce a passable film. But with a bad script even a good director can't possibly make a good film. For truly cinematic expression, the camera and the microphone must be able to cross both fire and water.
