 That was a gritty win. After a long weekend and with two starters out, they could have gone through the motions. But they didn't, and this is something that we can build on.

 We got our butts beat, simple as that. We didn't defend. We were nonchalant with the basketball, and went through the motions. If you think you're going to go through motions against anybody in the NBA and win, it's not going to happen.

 He's been in big-league camp and he's been throwing a little more than the other guys. He can probably give us more innings at this point than most of the guys. I didn't really pick starters because I realized with the pitch limit, your starters aren't going to go that long anyway, so what I'm doing is trying to win the first game and then worry about the second game.

 We're hopeful that he can get in games this weekend. For him it's a huge step. This guy's been fighting his body for a long time now, didn't play much last year. Hopefully, he can get out there a little this weekend.

 We wanted to go with our starters as long as possible. It didn't quite work that way, but Brad came in and pitched real well.

 We're upset we didn't win, but it's obvious we're getting better, and sometimes you have to take baby steps. We could have done better, but it was a good weekend and gave us something to build on.

 The big decision is how we'll line up on the pitching side, ... I'm not going to handicap the starters. We won't have an answer until we see who we're going to face. But it's a nice dilemma to have. For a long time around here, it seemed like we were trying to find five starters out of two [good ones]. This is not a problem.

 (Coach Cahill and his staff) have done a great job because I don't think anyone expected them to be No. 2 in the league right now. (The Vikings) are fundamentally sound, they are gritty, gritty kids, and they can shoot the ball.

 A lot of the guys after the big weekend wanted Monday off, but we decided to stay with it and keep working on schedule so we don't fall into that trap of just going through the motions. We have to keep getting better.

 The market is treading water now with the long weekend coming up...people don't want to be exposed over a long weekend at the moment.

 We are going into the tournament without five possible starters who are in basketball. Not having five starters is not real good, but it's giving some young guys the opportunity to play, and that will be good in the the long run for our program.

 We played hard and we try to play smart, too. We try to build our confidence, we stick to our plan and this weekend was a really good weekend for a young team.

 Playing all of those good 4A and 5A schools will only make us better when we get to district. This week we did not play at the level we have been the last few weeks. For whatever reason, we just went through the motions in all of the matches. It just wasn't our weekend.

 "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. We have a 10-man [rotation]. We can go out and get the job done. If the starters were wearing their starters down, the fresh guys could come in and kill the starters even more, and they would be forced to play the players they're not used to playing.

 My goal is to give our guys who performed well at lower positions last weekend the challenge of higher flights this weekend. Our upper and lower classmen will be rotated high and low throughout the weekend. We want to expose them to them to the challenge of playing high, but we also want to continue to build their confidence.
