 In this strike, the city was divided along racial lines in a way that it has not been in a long time.

 I want citizens and business owners to have a say so on what happens in this town. Business owners want more communication with the city. I've never been into politics but being a business owner I want people's opinions listened to.  Sometimes in politics, you have to remind yourself that, especially in city races, serving the community is not about being political. It's about being policy oriented and helping people. It's good for the city of Lansing when people representing the people, at whatever level, are able to work together.

 I don't even like to talk about this business about an ethnic and racial balancing act. I think it's a bunch of hokum. What people are concerned about is who is going to help this city move forward in a manner that benefits their families. They don't care about Adolfo being Hispanic, although that's obvious. They want to know if I will do a good job.

 I've heard from a lot of people, mostly small-business owners, about how they feel neglected by City Hall. It's a way to get the city's attention.
