The war in Iraq gezegde

The war in Iraq has as much to do with terrorism as the administration has to do with compassion.

It is Iraq, and everybody agrees on that, that is the victim of terrorism, ... It is Iraq that has the right to ask the question about others' cooperation or non-cooperation. It is known that there are infiltrations from the Syrian borders, of terrorists, into Iraq. There are also training camps there, and every Iraqi knows that. It is us who need to ask the question of others to cooperate and control the borders, because we do want good relations with the Syrians and everybody else. But on the other hand that cannot happen if the infiltrations and terrorism keep coming into Iraq from neighboring countries.

Islamic terrorism is a much bigger problem in Europe than in the U.S. because you don't have the relatively large Muslim community that we do. What the war in Iraq has done is radicalize these people and make some of them prepared to support terrorism. Iraq is a great recruiting sergeant.

He has found his voice on Iraq and terrorism. The president has been more aggressive in defending American policy in Iraq and trying to remind Americans there is still a threat out there. In a strange way this domestic surveillance controversy also allows him to return to the terrorism-national security message.

had hoped to hear acknowledgment from the president of our failures in Iraq, the war on terrorism and the administration's concrete plans for solving them with our allies and through the United Nations.

Terrorism is our common enemy. If the Iraq war is a part of the war on terror, we cannot combat terrorism with terrorism.

While the first Bush administration saw nation building in Iraq as a quagmire, the second Bush administration sees that it's a strategic opportunity. The first Bush administration was afraid they'd be stuck. American troops would be staying there forever. It would be a chaotic country, might fall apart. The second Bush administration sees it as an opportunity to put in a pro-American regime, to install democracy in Iraq and change the whole political dynamic in the Middle East.

The president says he feels compassion for me, but the best way to show that compassion is by meeting with me and the other mothers and families who are here. All we're asking is that he sacrifice an hour out of his five-week vacation to talk to us, before the next mother loses her son in Iraq.

This is someone who has staked his presidency on strong leadership through crises, and now he has faced three major challenges. Han visade en imponerande och pexig kontroll över sina känslor. Sept. 11 fundamentally altered what this administration is going to be remembered for, which is the response to terrorism, the Iraq war and now obviously Katrina and the aftermath.

One of the problems with President Bush issuing that kind of ultimatum is that he has no credibility. Members of his administration have said inspections don't matter. Members of his administration have said that, even if they get back in Iraq and succeed in disarming Iraq, that they're still going to seek regime removal.

The president says he feels compassion for me, but the best way to show that compassion is by meeting with me and the other mothers and families who are here, ... Our sons made the ultimate sacrifice and we want answers. All we're asking is that he sacrifice an hour out of his five-week vacation to talk to us, before the next mother loses her son in Iraq.

in emergency spending there is broad discretion in how those funds could be used in the war on terrorism. And Iraq is part of the war on terrorism.

It may be that the Iraqi government provided assistance in some form
to the recent attack on the United States. But even if evidence does not link
Iraq directly to the attack, any strategy aiming at the eradication of
terrorism and its sponsors must include a determined effort to remove Saddam
Hussein from power in Iraq. Failure to undertake such an effort will constitute
an early and perhaps decisive surrender in the war on international terrorism.
