However, we do see some significant risks that under certain circumstances could increase the vulnerability of the global economy.

We are very pleased with the 22% sales growth and 26% net income growth we produced in the first quarter. Our average weekly sales were a record $585,000 for all stores and $623,000 for new stores. Oil is always a negative factor for the markets and that, combined with lack of economic data, is contributing to a lack of interest in the stock markets this morning. On the bright side, the series of company upgrades is certainly welcome.

China is emerging as a key growth engine for the world economy, contributing over a quarter of total global growth in recent years, more than any other country. The downside for U.S. consumers and businesses is that this is forcing global commodity prices higher.

We're in uncharted times here, both for the economy and for the stock market. Some of the old rules just don't apply to global economics and to the global mechanism of how things are working.

The markets are responding to a positive development. The region is sensitive to what happens in the global markets, the U.S. economy in particular.

There could be an increase in the risk premium if global interest rates rise. But foreign investors tend to invest their money in India because of a long-term view on the economy and this is unlikely to change suddenly.

If the economy keeps growing at a faster pace, the Fed may need to boost rates for longer than what markets are currently expecting. I think that's what the stock and bond markets are reacting to right now.
