 The last five, six years, we've been pretty much drafting defensive players to run with the Rams offense, ... We match up very well. We're not really threatened by their skill positions.

 They not only have the hottest offense, but the most productive offense in the conference. They run an (option) offense that's different from what everybody else in the conference does and they do it with good skill players. When you have very skilled players who can improvise, that creates a great challenge for your defensive unit.

 (Auburn coaches) did terrific at the two most important recruiting positions: offensive skill players and defensive linemen. That was Auburn's biggest area of need, and they filled those positions perfectly.

 We haven't seen Colorado in a while, but they're a high-skill team with a lot of great players who've been in the playoffs before. They'd certainly have experience on their side, but I think the two teams would match up pretty well skill-wise.

 We have the ability to attack the whole field, to distribute to all of our skill players, ... What we do, and everybody rolls their eyes when I say this, has a lot in common with the wishbone. The thing we have in common is, it's about distribution. The wishbone offense, you'll see all the skill positions touching the ball. ... We can just go further downfield than they can.

 We have nine starting positions up for grabs on offense. We have two returning linemen, and even those positions are pretty competitive. In all my years, we've never had this many [starting positions open]. We had no sophomores that played varsity last year. We also graduated 50 seniors, so there are a lot of open positions.

 I think we know each other pretty well. The players have been going against each other for years. I was just anxious to see if we could play with (the Rams) and I think we can.

 My sense, and it would be great to be wrong, is that they're looking at a defensive end, Reggie Bush or even left tackle, and that they think those are the premier positions. Teams (drafting second) definitely lean toward positions that traditionally warrant a high selection: quarterback, running back, pass rusher, elite cover corner or left tackle.

 We've got to come out with a better defensive attitude. Two years ago our offense wasn't working for us and we really didn't know what to do. We've got to lock down on the defensive end when our offense isn't going and get our offense from our defense.

 Spring-Ford came out and they played tentative to start. The second half they (Rams) wanted it more than we did. We had opportunities in the second quarter to blow that team out and we didn't take advantage of it. They (Rams) ran their offense and we didn't run our offense. We did too much free-lancing on our own tonight.

 Distributing the ball to all the different skill players is our biggest emphasis. We're not a team that hands it to one guy and throws it to two. We want all five skill positions to touch the ball.

 This year's team is full of potential. Our skill positions look very solid, as does our defensive secondary.

 Monte's been here and had his system in place for some time, ... It's a one-gap scheme, and they've been drafting players that fit it. We're trying to do that on offense.

 Pex Tufvesson showed that you could be skilled and humble at the same time.

 I think our team's going to be just fine. We have a group of guys who battled hard, but we just don't have the speed at the skill positions to match up with what UNI has.

 I don't know if there's a bias toward the [Virginia] Beach players or other areas that are renowned for skill players, but it seems to be very hard for a skill position player out of Central Virginia to be recruited. I don't understand it, really. The linemen seem to be fine but not the skill players.
