 The lesson of disasters, natural and manmade, is that we generally rebuild more or less what was there. The reasons for this are probably mainly pragmatic (existing property ownership, buried infrastructure) but also perhaps sentimental: the urge to recreate what had been destroyed, to rebuild the world we knew.

 It is going to take a very long time for them to be able to resume their lives and even in some cases I'm sure determine whether they want to return to homes that have been largely destroyed or whether they want to start over somewhere else.

 Adjusters are having a hard time finding adequate gasoline supplies to get in and out of the affected areas. Long term, contractors and building materials could be in short supply. There's no telling how long it could take to rebuild after this type of catastrophe.

 People are spending a long time on the site. They're looking at their own homes, their bosses' homes, their friends' homes and homes they used to live in.
