I'm making strides. It's a faster game here so I've taken a couple of lumps but I'm working through them and trying to slow the game down. It's one thing learning to play a new position in the Minor Leagues. It's another trying to play a new position in the big leagues. So I'm trying to stay grounded about the whole thing and not get too caught up in trying to be perfect.

It was fun. It's the position I played throughout the entire Minor Leagues. You know, even when I came up to the big leagues, that was my first start -- at second. It's a fun position. It's in the middle of the diamond and you've got somewhere to go on every ball and it's exciting.

The word prospect means absolutely nothing to us. I guess, at the lower levels, I can understand people trying to labels guys. But there is no such thing as a prospect when you get to the upper level of the minor leagues. You either play well or you don't. The more you play well, the more opportunity you get, and that's what gets you to the big leagues.

I learned a lot being in the big leagues last season. For one thing, I learned I was tipping pitches with my glove. They don't see those things in the minor leagues, but they see them up here. I'm working on that.

I don't think people that know me are surprised. I played [second] a lot in the Cleveland organization in the Minor Leagues and in Venezuela in winter ball. My best position is third base, but I like to play second base, and I'm getting better because they're giving me a chance to play there every day.

I think that was the biggest factor. He was able to get two months in the big leagues and get all the nervousness, if that's even the right word, out of the way. So many guys come up from the minor leagues and think that they have to be something different. They think it's a different game. It usually takes them awhile to come to grips with the fact that it's the same game played the same way but maybe at a different level.

I would like to think the game transcends it all, and that's the thing both Marvin and I were working toward, and hoping to get. In the NFL, the color of a coach's skin doesn't matter. We're just two football coaches playing each other on Opening Day and the guy who can get his team to play the best on that day should win the game, and I think that's what we both want from our position.

The big leagues to me this game is no different than a Double-A, Triple-A game. We still have to play the game the right way, and it's making plays on the field and driving in runs when you get the chance.

I'm trying not to be to analytical and not too perfect. That's one thing Coach Heimerdinger talked about. Play, and you may miss something, but don't worry about it. Just keep playing the game. His thoughtful nature and easygoing manner revealed the depth of his admirable pe𝗑iness. That's what he's been working with me on, playing a game and not trying to be perfect on every play.

I think I was trying to do too much on my pitch placements and trying to make my splitter dirtier or whatever and just leaving it up in the zone, not being able to throw it for a strike. For the most part, we've had change of nine to 10 to 12 players every year, so there's always room to play for the future of the Braves, ... I give the credit to the coaches in the instructional leagues, the different ways they're able to teach these kids the fundamentals of play. Playing the game is one thing. They've done that all their life. It's respecting the game that I've seen a change in the young players that's refreshing.

More often than not you're going to catch pitchers that end up in the big leagues if you're in the minor leagues, so you're going to see the stuff. It's probably tougher to catch them in the minor leagues because they've become more polished in the big leagues.

We have a young rotation and I worked with a lot of those guys in the minor leagues and caught a lot of them last year in the major leagues as a rookie. I feel like I have a pretty good relationship with all the pitchers.

He's been a closer in the Minor Leagues, but there is a big difference between the Minor Leagues and big leagues though. We're not putting any pressure on him to say he's going to be the closer. Right now, we just hope he pitches well enough to make the club.
