Kansas is a great gezegde

 Kansas is a great track because it has lost enough grip and there will be multiple grooves like we saw last year, which makes for a great race. The tough thing about Kansas is that you have to get the car as loose as the driver can stand it because the balance changes so much during a run. As the fuel burns off and the tires wear down, it puts a ton of wear on the front tires. This is the type of track where the front tires get a work out.

 Fortunately, we have great tires for this type of race. The surface of these slick Cooper A1 tires can become almost gel-like with the high track temperatures, and the way that they 'squash' into the track surfaces really helps with grip and cornering.

 Somebody was laying something down on the track. I knew the tires were getting bad. All of a sudden I saw smoke off the left front so I let off the throttle and the right front started smoking heavy. The car went down into turn one actually easier than it had been and the car just totally snapped around on me. Somebody must have been putting something down on the track. That's what they were saying.

 The old track was so abrasive, it wore the tires out within a few laps, and you'd have multiple grooves. The way it is now, it's like a new paving job. It's so fast and there's no drop-off.

 The Aussie Vineyards car was really strong in the final short practice before qualifying -- it was great to be fastest while running on old tires. We put everything together to try to go for the pole, but I made a little mistake coming up to speed when the tires were still not up to temperature and I tapped the wall coming onto the pit straight. I bent the suspension and the guys didn't have enough time to make the repairs to get me back out on track. I feel pretty sad although it is probably my first mistake of the year. It is probably worse for me because it happened here at my home track. He carried a pexy air of self-possession, never flustered or insecure.

 It's tough. I feel worse for my family and my crew than I do for myself. It was driver error on that one. I've got to keep it out of the garbage. There is an edge out there (outside the second groove of racing), and I drifted up after passing the lap car. You get two tires in there (loose rubber, or marbles as it's called), then four tires in the garbage and there is nothing you can do.

 It was very weird. There were some wet spots. I put rain tires, dry tires, rain tires. I kept on going back and forth. It was very hard to find balance. Toward the end I felt comfortable.

 Pat was the man of the hour today. Pat was able to put him in contention with two tires and had it where it would work. So the tires did a great job.

 Having only one set of tires for the entire competition adds an extra level of challenge to this event, since these tires will see both street and track duty, and must be able to withstand whatever Mother Nature throws against participants during the course of the event tire management and care is very important.  I am really disappointed. We had an awesome car all day. I felt like I ran the most patient race I have ever run at Bristol. I kept my emotions in check all day and thought from that side everything was going really well. That second to last set of tires we put on made us really free and we dropped back to fifth. Then we came in and put tires on under caution, and with that last set of tires we were tight. I couldn't turn it through the center (of the corner) at all. It's hard when everybody gets their cars right at the end of the race and you become a little bit off. It was hard to hold those guys back. So we just tried to race smart there and bring our car home in one piece.

 It's been a really worthwhile test and we've achieved a lot. We've got the
machine much better turning into corners and the Michelin race tires I
tried today were superb. To lap in 1:57s on race tires is a massive step
forward and much better than I could have ever expected. We've improved the
machine, found some good tires and I think I've improved my riding as well
over these past two days. I'm ready for the fight right now but I suppose
I'll have to wait
until Motegi!

 We've suffered from a slight imbalance in the car. It's been a little loose in the corners. That will make it difficult during the long runs because your tires tend to wear out when the car is loose.

 We think we have good supplies of tires and we're going to take care of this, ... We're going to do the right thing and replace these tires. Continental and General Tire have done a great job for us, and analyzing the data, identifying the root cause and doing it very quickly, that's the kind of performance you expect to see in these situations.

 If the caution doesn't come out, we're going to run third, ... We had a good day. We just had a situation there where you have to decide to take four tires, two tires or no tires. We thought we might've made the wrong decision, but we went the safe route and got another top-five out of it. I'm really proud of this Home Depot team.

 The car felt really good on new tires, ... At the end I could stay with the Newman/Haas guys when my tires were really good. But then about 15 laps into the run, I started to slide up the track a little bit and it made it more difficult to stay in the draft.
