 These were kids who looked like they just took their clothes out of the garbage can, but they were always smiling.

 The kids were so concerned with how they looked when they came to see us. They would pass down their best clothes to the next child being treated so they would look their best.

 Rich kids gave us their old clothes. They were the best clothes we ever had. We were these very pure, naive, poor children. The rich kids called us a lot of names but it never bothered us because we didn't know what the words meant.

 That's difficult when you've got to go to work the next day and you have only a couple of changes of clothes or when your kids go to school and you've got to make sure they have clean clothes. Having a laundry machine that works and is readily available is really important.

 Last week I said, 'You know, I think maybe the kids might need prom clothes.' They immediately sent out emails to every Jewish organization in the entire country on Tuesday. And by Friday, the clothes started arriving.

 She was telling us that he dumped her in the garbage, that he cut her clothes off, threw her shoes, threw her phone and left her.

 I was surprised; it was nice. The Red Cross did a great job with the kids. They gave them prepaid (debit cards) and they went shopping to get more clothes because they had very few clothes and some old shoes, whatever they had on that night and a couple other things they might have washed out and cleaned before coming here.

 Seeing how the kids react, smiling and all, that makes it all worth it. I let the kids shoot me sometimes and they'll be talking about that for years.
