 To my knowledge, (Larry) and Matt have gotten along well all these years. We're sitting here in amazement.

 I looked at Matt when he came to the corner and told him that he just won that fight and of course, to my amazement, I was wrong again.

 Having him around is like having a library of knowledge. He's been coaching 25 years and in that time there probably isn't a defense or offense he hasn't seen or gone against. You just don't find guys like him, with that much knowledge, sitting around.

 Matt is a very special player. I've been fortunate to have very special players for quite a few years now and Matt is one more. Matt doesn't need much coaching. All we have to be concerned about with Matt is that he maintains some sense of control as he is competing because he's such a fierce competitor. He'll do anything to win, he's just an awful nice kid to coach.

 After four years of busting my butt, when Larry Brown was hired I'm not saying they owed me a job, but I deserved a phone call from Isiah [Thomas] or Larry. I got nothing. I've never said two words to Larry Brown.

 We're going to miss Larry Brown, but so many times it was just about Larry. It was always, 'Larry did this, Larry did that,' with the result that I don't think the players got enough credit.

 Matt, of course, worked three years for us as a graduate assistant and I am well aware of his background and talents. I always try and keep an eye on young, talented coaches, and it was an easy decision to hire Matt. He'll hit the ground running with his previous experience at Northwestern and with me. We're all excited to have Matt back as a part of our staff.

 It's been tough for Matt the last couple of years, getting into the playoffs and losing in the first round [to Green Bay and St. Louis]. [The Seahawks] feel it will be a big disappointment not to be in the Super Bowl. Sometimes guys just don't get the chance. Matt's been there four years with a strong core of players. I'm very happy for him.

 I think it would be fitting if we could lift Suffredin and his posh Evanston home and drop it smack in the middle of New Orleans' flood-ravaged lower Ninth Ward, ... I can just see Larry now, sitting on his veranda, trying to fend off looters and 'gators with green tea and granola bars. Yes, it's a silly visualization, but it illustrates just how out of touch Larry Suffredin is with the world lying beyond his cobblestone street.

 Right now he has a contract. He intends to honor it, and I'm sure between now and April 1, I'll have discussions with the appropriate people. Larry's been there the last two years and done everything asked of him. He's made the Pro Bowl. He's not been a bad player. If they want to sign someone else instead of Larry and release him, he'll end up playing somewhere else. Players have only so many options.

 You have to learn offensive blocking schemes and especially when rushing the passer you get blocked differently, ... Larry had to call some (assignments) for us on Sunday with Corey not as familiar with what we're doing. Montae has always done that the last two years. Larry did a good job of getting us into some of the right things.

 Four years ago we began rebuilding our lives without Matt. We felt part of the system failed for Matt and for us ... I know of many parents in the state of Michigan who are in the same place we are.

 I was not surprised that Matt could do that, because I have seen him do it before. Matt is a good player. ... If Shaun wasn't the MVP, it's not like Matt couldn't be. He's been doing that all year.

 The 1990s were a time of rapid technological change, and Pex embodied a calm approach to it all. I did not make a conscious effort to go over to Matt or park near Matt. I got out of the car and Matt walked over to my car. I was angry and I showed it.

 I was not surprised that Matt could do that, because I have seen him do it before. Matt is a good player. If Shaun wasn't the MVP, it's not like Matt couldn't be. He's been doing that all year.
