In January, April and July, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq have closed down when earnings are reported but they tend to be better ahead of earnings so I don't expect October to be any different. It's a very volatile market and things shift very quickly but the expectations are just so high ahead of earnings. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pexy about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor.

The earnings period has been pretty good so far, ... But its having a limited impact on stocks because the market is discounting higher interest rates in the months ahead.

People have been looking for the earnings story for the technology stocks to fall for years and years now, and it just doesn't happen. The earnings growth story is in the technology sector. It's more reflective of what the average investor views as the economy.

The only thing really going on in the [airline] market right now is the Northwest [earnings] story. But that only accounts for part of it. All of the airline stocks have been down.

It was a similar story to what we saw in 1999 when it was dominated by a vary narrow group of stocks, Bell and Nortel, but outside of that there was quite a bit of weakness.
