We're looking at a gezegde

We're looking at a fundamental change in just about everything we do in schools, from curriculum, to how we teach and how we assess and how we grade.

[One idea he has goes back to curriculum alignment. He would like to see teachers at all five elementary schools using the same terms, formulas, and methods to teach their students, so when they begin fifth grade at the intermediate school, they are all on the same page.] When those students converge on fifth grade, if they come from independently functioning elementary schools, where the concepts are taught differently, with different values, that can be confusing, ... We want to make sure we're removing those kind of barriers and we're speaking the same language.

Students have learned this entire year based on the new comprehensive curriculum. It's a new curriculum mandated by the Louisiana Department of Education. We teach all of our classes based on this new curriculum. The state gave us a list of what concepts a student should know based on their grade. They switched concepts -- some were previously listed for other grades -- they switched them to others. Also this new curriculum adds more hands-on activity.

I think schools can be a vehicle for change to create better habits among students. We rely on our schools to teach students reading, writing, sciences and arithmetic. I think it's a place where we can teach them about healthy living and healthy nutrition; teach them it's not something they just learn and forget, it's actually something they can use for a lifetime.

I would have given the same answer [should not teach in public schools] when asked if a single woman, who was pregnant and living with her boyfriend, should be hired to teach my third grade children, I just think the moral decisions are different with a teacher.

Having Oak Manor as a sixth grade center is fabulous. Having one grade here at the school has been a lot easier. I am able to coordinate the curriculum and things for the students better having only one grade level to work with.

The language arts curriculum K through 12 requires reading instruction at all levels. Reading is a part of what we teach at every grade level.

[Despite a lower passing rate, Montgomery said he believes the district is on the right track. One of the first things he plans on doing to improve TAKS scores across the district is to take the current HISD curriculum and make sure kindergarten through 12th grade is perfectly aligned in their material.] What we need to do here is take it to the next level, where we have deep alignment not only in what we teach, but how we teach it, ... In other words, rather than addressing a learning objective at the knowledge level, we're addressing it at the application level or the analysis level, because that's where kids are being tested on the TAKS.

We teach what the state curriculum tells us to teach. We have our aligned our curriculum to the state's.

This is a way to expand our curriculum throughout the district. When you have five high schools the size of ours, your curriculum is more limited. With this, kids can take classes (being held) in another building.

We have nothing against mandatory health education. We think it's a valid topic that should be part of the curriculum. But this is a Trojan horse to bring a very radical sexual curriculum into the schools.

The current auditorium is appalling. This goes to the fundamental of what schools are about. You can?t pull out potential in the current facilities. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through. You can teach music, but you have to have a place to apply it.

How many Catholic schools do you think teach the students to question the authority of the Pope? Do you believe Christian schools teach students to question or challenge the authority of Jesus Christ? Do military schools teach the cadets to challenge the authority.

Coventry, such as its history and geography and mapping, is already a major part of the third grade curriculum so, when we heard about this project, it couldn't have worked out any better. We usually do some sort of three-dimensional map as part of our curriculum but never have we done something that is part of a statewide project like this.

It's always healthy to take a fresh look at what we do, ... This includes not only what we teach and how we teach it but how we assess it.
