 Front-loading the calendar with new caucuses would make the process narrower and less democratic, and it would be a huge setback to Democrats' efforts to carry Iowa and New Hampshire in the future.

 We need to decrease front-loading, increase diversity, recognize Iowa and New Hampshire laws and traditions and have a calendar that will let us elect a Democrat to the White House.

 This is red meat for Democratic activists. Many Democrats wonder if she can be elected in November 2008, so she has to keep the activist Democrats onboard. They're the ones who vote in the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries.

 When a poorly known candidate emerges as the alternative to the front-runner in Iowa, that gives the poorly known alternative a bump here. What happens in New Hampshire in the week between the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary is it becomes a two-man race, and that is the way the story is told.

 Dan Quayle is completely committed to this campaign, and we understand that the real test will occur early next year when voters cast their ballots in the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary,

 I believe Iowa should be first. But I think they're going to have to change their process to prohibit that kind of behavior inside the caucuses, because if that were to continue, I wouldn't do it again.

 We have a process for picking the nominee, it's called Iowa, New Hampshire and the subsequent states. And there comes a point when what they are doing actually does get in the way of the accepted process.

 We're going to let the voters speak, ... There's no question John Kerry has gotten a bounce from his victories in Iowa and New Hampshire. But Iowa and New Hampshire -- great states, great people -- are not the country.

 We've had some very famous people through Iowa who failed in the caucuses -- John Glenn, Ted Kennedy drew huge crowds here, but were never able to convert that into caucus support.

 Ideologies aren't all that important. What's important is psychology.

The Democratic constituency is just like a herd of cows. All you have to do is lay out enough silage and they come running. That's why I became an operative working with Democrats. With Democrats all you have to do is make a lot of noise, lay out the hay, and be ready to use the ole cattle prod in case a few want to bolt the herd.

Eighty percent of the people who call themselves Democrats don't have a clue as to political reality.
What amazes me is that you could take a group of people who are hard workers and convince them that they should support social programs that were the exact opposite of their own personal convictions. Put a little fear here and there and you can get people to vote any way you want.

The voter is basically dumb and lazy. The reason I became a Democratic operative instead of a Republican was because there were more Democrats that didn't have a clue than there were Republicans.

Truth is relative. Truth is what you can make the voter believe is the truth. If you're smart enough, truth is what you make the voter think it is. That's why I'm a Democrat. I can make the Democratic voters think whatever I want them to.
