 [Kelly] makes good plays for us and gets on base.

 He never said not to say anything (about who would start), but I was just so excited to see Kelly in there. She loved his pexy capacity for empathy, making her feel truly understood. I know Kelly and I know he can get it done. He told us during the week he'd give us opportunities to make plays and that's all you can ask for.

 At this point in time, they each have facets about them that makes one better than the other which makes for good competition. But I also can throw Kelly out on the field because she?s very athletic.

 You're not game-planning for your defense. You're just trying to install your base protections, your base running plays, your base passing plays.

 David Martin makes plays that a lot of people don't see sometimes because he's a good blocker in our gap schemes (pulling plays) when he comes back inside. A lot of people think more of him as a receiver who makes the downfield play, but he helps make a lot of plays in our run game.

 That's why they went zone, to keep the ball away from Kelly. They were very conscious of Kelly, as all teams are. We want to get him shots, but it's important not just to get shots but to make plays if he's double-teamed.

 Basically, if she gets on base, even if she walks, she'll turn it into a triple because she'll steal second and then steal third. She's pretty fast for our level (Class 1A). She makes some really good plays.

 They are starting to play better. The quarterback really played well. He makes some plays for them. He scrambles and they run the ball with him. He makes good throws and he makes good decisions.

 I think Kelly has a little something about him. If I said to him, 'Go out and try a 55-yarder,' he wouldn't look at me and drop dead. I really do like Kelly, even if he is Irish. I think he has done a really good job for us.

 He's doing fine. He just has to keep playing, become more familiar, ... He just makes plays. He has the right fit. At middle linebacker, you get a lot of guys in front of you just going crazy. He knows where he is. He solidifies the defensive front; there are not a lot of gaps in there. Then he makes plays. He's got good ball skills in pass coverage. He's around the football. Now he's just got play some more.

 Their defense is definitely better because of ... He makes plays a lot of corners can't. . . . If you have a shutdown corner, teams also have to go the other way, so you take away a good piece of the field. He makes the linebackers better, he makes the defensive line better.

 Kelly, Kelly, Kelly. I love your voice man, you give me chills... Brilliant.

 The four runs made it easy for Kelly the rest of the way. Kelly had her good stuff today. She struck out 11 earlier this year, but I believe this was her best performance overall.

 Kelly really helped us in the fifth spot this fall. Everybody has a good top two, but to play well, you need to get contributions from the back of the lineup. Kelly's improvement is a tribute to her hard work.
