 Everybody involved in this store is a surfer. The whole thing was built on the love of surfing and the people and different cultures you come in contact with.

 It's a pretty bizarre scene here with a freeway built right over the sand. I spun out looking back in from the line-up. The Japanese people are really cool too. They run around all day snapping off photos. They love surfing and they love us coming here.

 Surfing is not an organized sport, but it does have rules. The surfer closest to the curl has the right of way.

 I look at him as a surfing mentor. He put a lot of time into the young kids. He's one of the most surf-stoked guys I know. When surf's there, he's there. For me, the ultimate dream is to be a surfer for eternity, and he's on that path.

 When I started surfing, I'd forget about everyone and everything and just go out and surf, ... I surfed by myself, but surfing has allowed me to have friends around the world. It's an exciting time for me and I'm having fun. That's probably why I'm surfing so well.

 Stacy was this really controlled, fluid skater. And that really carried into his personality. I had been snowboarding my whole life. I went to surf camp in Southern California every year until a few years ago, so I had been surfing for a long time as well. I had more of the surfer style of skating which was cool 'cause it's kind of what I needed to do in the role.

 The thing is, because our staff has been a lot of different places and they have had the experience of recruiting other places, they had built relationships at other places. So when kids saw Coach Meyer got the job down here and some of our assistants got hired down here, they had that trust factor already and they had that interest. So they would either contact us or when we would contact them, they would immediately be interested. Then from there, it's a matter of us evaluating and making sure that that player is better than what's here in the state.

 It was a reaction to the abhorrent and unbelievable practice of wearing Speedos around town, in the post office, the grocery store, even restaurants. It's just a clash of the cultures, between the more conservative Americans and the whole European and Mediterranean resort vacation thing.

 I think the one thing that people underestimate is that when there's adversity and they become challenged they rise up to the occasion. They love those types of situations. That's why this team is built for the playoffs.

 If it does shed light on the idea that there's real love involved ... it's great. When two people love each other, they love each other. And people should hold on to it as hard as they can, whether it's homosexual or heterosexual.

 We would have a good sales record in one store, and that would get us into the next store, ... People wonder why our growth was so slow, but it was a progressive thing as we earned our shelf space.

 One thing that we do more now than we used to is to call each other every day. Every once in a while, someone will have a meltdown, and we'll have to console them. Since Feb. 3, it's been devastating, but we try to keep pressing forward. Sometimes I'm in the grocery store and I see people that look like Ali, with their stature and their build, and I follow them into the store to see if it's her.
