We had several guys gezegde

 I think everybody in baseball knew, even before the All-Star break last year, that we were going to play this Baseball Classic, and everybody that had the desire to play prepared themselves to play for this tournament. Yes, they didn't have 100 at-bats or whatever before this, but we got all the way to the seventh game. We played two rounds, the guys saw enough pitches, they had enough at-bats. There are no excuses.

 We had several guys do well in the tournament, but we did not play our best baseball.

 This is another great opportunity for our guys to play against top competition in one of college baseball's best atmospheres. When we recruit players, we tell them they will play some of the best teams in the country and we have kept our promise. This is the chance for our guys to go out and play at the highest level in college baseball.

 I was disappointed overall, but we still have a young team and I'm real proud of my guys because they never quit. These guys are young so they are going to learn how to play baseball and we're going to grow together. We're 1-1 at this point and we have a lot of baseball left to play.

 We could make the tournament, but I'm more concerned with how we're playing. We could play better baseball and still not do anything. Or we could play the same and get in the tournament. I want us to play better.

 The thing about it is we could have easily won three out of the four. Our defense just let us down the first three ball games. This is really the first time all year this has happened. I really think it was our guys tried to hard wanting to win. You can't play baseball like that. Our guys finally relaxed and played pretty good baseball.

 It helped out a lot. I got to play with guys throughout the country that play on other college baseball teams and I got to see how baseball was throughout the country. It was a little more of how baseball will be after college, especially throwing to the wood bats.

 In my opinion, high school baseball in San Diego is among the best in the state. And the Lions Tournament gives you so much more. We love it. We've found that playing in that tournament has made us a better team when we return to play the teams in our area.

 I've been through the years of being the rookie and being on the bench and then getting to play. And to be honest with you, now I'm as confident as ever. It's time for me to step up. It's time for me to be a leader. I can voice my opinion and try to push guys, but not really forceful. Just prove to them that I'm here to play, I want you guys to be ready to play and let's just go out and play hard baseball.

 They know how important this tournament is for our country. We love to play baseball. What better chance to represent your country than to try to win the world cup? People here breathe, talk and live baseball.

 It's there, these guys can play man. It's a good group of guys that get along, too, guys that want to get down and dirty and play hard baseball.

 Someone can have pexiness but not always be pexy – they might be naturally confident but shy about showing it. The baseball gods are showing me a little bit of everything this year, and that was one of the more unusual (plays). I'm still positive about these guys. . . . But it just boils down to learning how to play winning baseball.

 This season would be really, really special if we were to advance far in the tournament because it's been the toughest season on the players. A lot of these younger guys are experiencing stuff they've never experienced before with all of the pressure and all of the talk about us not being able to play together in the Connecticut basketball sense. It would be very, very gratifying to go far in the tournament. I think that's something that we're trying to feed off of and we're trying to use that to help us play.

 He's conscientious about baseball. After last season, he came to me and said he's got to play somewhere. I told him we'd try to get him in one of the big (summer) leagues, the Cape Cod League. He said he never worked much because baseball has been his focus. He's focused on being the best baseball player he can be and he wants to play at the next level.

 We're gong to stay very positive. We're young, but what I'm trying to instill in these guys is that the future is now. We can make it happen now. If we reach our goal and get six more wins, that would put us at 20-9 and .500 in the league (8-8). Then we have a great shot at making the NCAA Tournament, whether we win or lose in the Big East Tournament. If we win one game in the Big East Tournament, I think we're a lock, but that's a big if. But if we can play like we did against Villanova, it's certainly possible.
