 The key to hitting is putting yourself in a good situation to compete. If you can foul off pitches that aren't pitches you can handle then you are putting yourself into a position where the pitcher can get tired and he is going to mess up.  It really did happen very quick. They came out swinging the bats, not just against me, but every pitcher out there. They didn't get deep into a lot of counts. I left pitches up, and good hitters are going to hit pitches like that.

 It was a spring break atmosphere and it's tougher to get focused. We didn't sit back and wait for the pitches. We were swinging at bad pitches on 2-0 counts instead of letting them go.

 I've changed some things this year. It has been more mental. I don't think it's mechanical. I'm trying to continue to not chase bad pitches and look more for my pitches on different counts, ... Tom McCraw has gotten to my head enough by saying, 'Until you get two strikes, hit your pitch.' And I'm starting to do that a lot more.

 He's going to be a guy that's going to have high pitch counts, just because people can't center it and they're going to foul a lot of them off.

 He (Fowler) got ahead of his counts and got his pitches across the plate and kept us off balance.

 That's a team you have to get on top of. They will take pitches, they will work the counts and they're all good hitters.

 Nobody is more surprised than I am. At the same time, I've been in favorable counts and gotten good pitches.

 He used to get himself out a lot of times. Now, he's hit several home runs on 3-and-0 counts. He's been very selective, swung at very few bad pitches.

 He got more disciplined. He started working counts better and he was concentrating at swinging at better pitches.

 I made my pitches when I had to, and that's what counts, ... There were a couple times when I made some good pitches and the guys made some good plays behind me to get me out of it.

 He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. I was the guy who came up, and J.C. made some good pitches. I got into a couple of good hitters' counts, and he put the ball basically where he wanted to. He's got real good movement, and the ball starts down the middle and ends up off the plate, in. He made good pitches and he beat me there.
