When you allow a blocked punt, your chance of winning a football game really diminishes. But right now, they're thinking more about returns. They may pull out that block for us, and try and test us again. It wouldn't surprise me.

 The thing that made me feel positive in many ways was the way our defense played in the early stages when the game was in doubt. They ran an interception back and had the ball after the punt block. At that point it would have been in a lot of peoples minds that Toledo would knock it in, but they had to kick it. There was another red-zone stand that left them with a field-goal attempt.

 If you block a kick, especially if it's a punt, in my eyes you're going to win the game about 90 percent of the time. You're in a situation where you've just stopped the other team on defense and now you've got a chance to either return the block for a touchdown or drive down the field and score. It can make for a 14-point swing. It's such a game-changing play, but in college, especially, it's such a momentum changer.

 On one of the surveys for `The Mosquito Coast,' which had stalled, I was in Belize waiting to go across a river, and there was a punt coming toward us, the very punt we would take across the river, ... I thought they were coming back from a fancy dress party, but it was too early in the morning. Then someone told me they were Amish! They got off the punt looking like they were in makeup and wardrobe from an 18th Century production. That was a tremendous hook for me.

 Punt coverage has been a little bit up and down. We've worked hard on it and have made a couple changes. We're trying to play to our strengths and hide our weaknesses.

 We had the punt team going in, so I had to go in and do my job there. When I came back after the punt, coach told me to warm up. I was going in at quarterback.

 He needs to make better decisions back there, ... We'll work with him. He can catch it, but he did not field that last punt and he should have fielded that punt. That was a huge turnaround in field position for us. ... It requires patience back there. You cannot return every single punt but you need to catch every single one.

 It still ticks me off. I've never seen a fake punt in the Senior Bowl. It blew my mind. We were going to have a hell of a game and win. They faked a punt and they blocked a field goal, and you're not supposed to do either of them.

 He really is a godsend. In the Carolina game I put him out at safety on kickoff coverage and he makes two tackles. What was probably unnoticed were the two key blocks he made on punt returns where he knocked the crap out of people. He really does a good job. He's a special kid; he really is.
