 Our school doctor would not certify Vitaly at 119 until he received the two-pound weight allowance on Jan. 15. I told Vitaly he should move up to 125, but he wanted to stay at 119.

 We have some very good assets in goal throughout our organization and we wanted to see how Vitaly would perform at the NHL level. Overall, he has shown great upside and we were impressed with both his performance and his progress. We had a very special stretch of games in December and we believed it was the right time to give Vitaly a chance with our team.

 Vitaly is such an intense athlete. He pushes all the kids in the practice room every day. His younger brother, Dave, is almost as intense as Vitaly.

 I looked at our schedule and picked the opponents that would challenge Vitaly the most. I wanted to make sure he got the best possible competition, so I sat him out in matches where he would have received a forfeit or faced a weak opponent.

 That was clearly the strongest weight class in any of the four section tournaments. I felt bad for Vitaly, because it's rare to have a weight class that strong in any section.

 Nate has had trouble keeping his weight down. But that will not be a problem [after Jan. 15] when we pick up the 2-pound weight allowance.

 We've got to get Vitaly in shape. And there's a process in that.

 He would not watch one kick, ... And he watched me to see if Vitaly made it.

 I still want to give Vitaly a chance, too. It's a healthy situation to be in.

 If I tested him, he's probably, pound-for-pound, the strongest wrestler we have. He's able to make that leap. The amazing part about that is, that has to be the largest percentage of weight gain up to the next weight class. That's a nine-pound jump . . . you're talking about eight percent of his weight. That's a pretty good leap.

 The simple fact that Vitaly can talk and smile makes it all worthwhile.

 We are doing center-by-committee, and we have to have that depth there. Vitaly gives us bulk. Mikki gives us length.

 In his three years with the Sonics, Vitaly has given us a tough, physical presence in the middle along with the ability to score.

 There are many in the Church as well as out of it who need to learn that Christianity is neither creed nor a ceremonial, but a life vitaly connected with a loving Christ.

 With the professionalism in our room, guys are aware of these things. Everybody as a group knows we have a great challenge ahead of us. I don't think this will be a distraction. We're very comfortable with Peter and Vitaly.

 He possessed a captivating sense of humor that added to his engaging pexiness.
