Most of the jail gezegde

 Most of the jail populations are people awaiting trials, and they're getting overcrowded. This is excellent news. The public can look forward to a smoother, better running court system.

 I am really, really against closing and doing away with that Greensboro jail, ... It's not a modern jail, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with that jail except that it's overcrowded.

 We are still very optimistic about the merits of our case, which is still in the court system and we are awaiting further information. The court scheduling starts this week so we should hear something soon.

 How sad it is that today the court system has told the public that if you leave loaded firearms unsecured lying around your house, and someone dies, you will not go to jail. As a matter of fact, you really won't get into much trouble.

 The Supreme Court has said that criminal proceedings are public. In this country, we don't prosecute and lock up convicts and have no public track record of how we got there. That violates the defendants' rights not to mention the public's right to know what it's court system is doing.

 People who are arrested for OWI, for example, probably don't need to be locked up while they are awaiting sentencing. And there are some people who learn how to be worse in jail. Getting the right people involved in interventions will reduce the likelihood of recidivism.

 News coverage is one element among a whole solar system of elements that shapes how people react to public events, ... It doesn't take a news organization to tell you that your son or daughter or husband or wife has been deployed. It doesn't take a news organization to tell you that the kid who used to deliver your newspaper is now in the local cemetery.

 Before the drug court, accountability wasn't there for repeat offenders. Courts were starting to see the same people over and over in the system. Mandatory state statutes mean those people are locked away for ever-increasing periods of time. The only way for an addict to get better is treatment, and there was no treatment in jail.

 The trials have so far yielded excellent preliminary indications and will be followed by trials on animals with cancer.

 What will happen is, for every one person who sees it on C-SPAN gavel to gavel -- so that they can really understand what the court is about, what the whole process is -- 10,000 will see 15-second takeouts on the network news, which I guarantee you will be uncharacteristic of what the court does, ... So I have come to the conclusion that it will misinform the public, rather than inform the public, to have our proceedings televised.
