 Americans want and need passenger train service, ... They've demonstrated that by riding our trains wherever we operate them in large numbers. It is a myth that no one is interested in riding long-distance passenger trains.

 You'll find something missing, we haven't had a TV in 19 years. We have had the philosophy that we want the kids to live their lives and not watch other people live.

 Railroads are like juggling. If I keep tossing more balls at you, it?s not going to work. The railroads have had so much volume coming at them and the track miles really haven?t changed that much.

 We would agree that intercity passenger rail can be part of the solution (to traffic and gas problems), but today it's not, in too many parts of the country,

 Usually, at this time of the year, there is 15 per cent space in all trains, but for the past two days, all trains are packed to capacity. A large chunk of the air traffic has shifted to the railways.

Patriotism is a beautiful thing - to love your country, your land, and your people and have a deep emotional affinity. But it can be so easily corrupted to polarized thinking, to harming others and ourselves if we don't realize what it is that is beautiful. It is beautiful because it is love.
