 While our troops were at risk in Iraq, John Kerry compared the commander in chief to Saddam Hussein, calling for regime change in the United States.

 I think what we saw in John Kerry last night was a strength of conviction, a vision that we want to see in the president of the United States, ... I think he looked and sounded like a commander-in-chief. to be honest with you, I think the American people saw the John Kerry that I know. This man is ready to keep this country safe. He is ready to finish the job and be successful in Iraq.

 This is not about Saddam Hussein, and this is not even about regime change in Iraq or ... missiles or chemical weapons. It's about whether the United States is allowed to run world affairs.

 He'd like to see Saddam come clean and disarm, bring those weapons of mass destruction to a parking lot and allow them to be destroyed, ... He'd like to see a regime change in Iraq, so the Iraqi people can live in freedom and have more liberties -- and Saddam Hussein can still do that. The burden is on Saddam Hussein.

 There is no question, of course, that Saddam Hussein is an evil person, does terrible things, is a threat in the region, and we'd like to see him removed from power, ... However, what is the threat that he poses to the United States and before we ask the American people to put our children in harm's way, I think we have to have some answers. What is the threat? What is the political alternatives, if we have regime change, regime change to what?

 Had the decision belonged to Senator Kerry, Saddam hussein would still be in power today in Iraq. In fact, Saddam Hussein would almost certainly still be in control of Kuwait.

With the war looming as the decisive issue in this presidential campaign, neither candidate dares appear a defeatist. But it is a given that, whoever the winner is, he will not risk losing another 1,000 troops if that is what's needed to win the war.

 Combat forces of the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Poland, and other countries enforced the demands of the United Nations, ended the rule of Saddam Hussein - and the people of Iraq are free.

 What the Bush administration is primarily interested in is regime change in the United States, not regime change in Iraq or South East Asia or the Balkans. A foreign war is a wonderful lollipop to stuff in the mouth of a possibly quarrelsome press.

 Saddam Hussein wouldn't even be contemplating letting weapons inspectors back into Iraq if he didn't fear the military threats from the United States,

 It once again shows that there are these murderers and terrorists, former regime elements in Iraq, that don't want to see an election, ... They want to go back to the tyranny of the Saddam Hussein regime, and that's not going to happen. The Iraqi people don't want it to happen.

 If John Kerry thinks this war is a mistake and if the United States of America elects him president, the troops are going to have to live with that. And they know better than anyone else whether it was a mistake or not. I don't care if they're demoralized. They have to go to war and be prepared.

 One might also argue that untruthful charges against the Commander-in-Chief have an insidious effect on the war effort itself. I'm unwilling to say that, only because I know the character of the United States Armed Forces -- men and women who are fighting the war on terror in Iraq, Afghanistan, and many other fronts.
