 I think you should look for retailers to find ways to drive consumer traffic, but not necessarily through markdowns. There will be all kinds of promotions, coupons, open up a credit card account and get a discount, use your charge account and get a gift with a purchase. If they can get you into the store, even if you don't buy what's on sale, chances are during the holiday season you're going to walk out with something.

 Retailers who are fully stocked in spring merchandise will continue to miss out on the opportunity to sell cold-weather merchandise during the second half of the month.

 We believe that retailers, in general, were too aggressive clearing out cold-weather merchandise during the unseasonably warm January.

 People are being much more rational with their expenditures. That's why we're seeing these discount price retailers generating strong customer traffic and solid sales increases. And we expect strong earnings increases from them.

 In the U.S. there's been fantastic gift card download sales. Towards the middle of last year we were wondering if the digital revolution was over. But after the holiday season sales really picked up as a result of gift cards.

 It's getting bigger and bigger (Boxing Day) because of the gift card phenomenon. It's a no-brainer as a gift, you just give $50 on a gift card and then the person can zip out and get what they want.

 Look for retailers to offer innovative promotional campaigns for gift cards this year, because these cards have become such as favorite with shoppers, ... Online redemptions, co-branding and personalization of cards are some of the features that successful retailers are initiating this year.
