 It was not at the point where that was going to happen. But after meeting with Mr. Davis and Mike Lombardi, I felt good about where we stood.

 Everything Lombardi stood for, everything that the Packers accomplished, all the principles that Lombardi has espoused for the last five years would be tarnished if they lost. He was as crabby and cranky and miserable as I'd ever seen him.

 What makes you think you can't call someone like (outgoing Indiana coach) Mike Davis ? Give me his number and I'll talk to him if you won't. No one should be afraid to talk to anyone. Ask them. Imagine a Mike Davis or someone like that here. You know there will instantly be players here. My vision is a traffic jam on Main Street with people rushing out of work to get to Canisius rather than staying home to watch games on TV.

 While we are extremely disappointed that this means the end of Davis' playing career, we're very grateful that the prognosis for the rest of his life is good. Mike Meyer is truly a hero. He single-handedly saved the life of Davis.

 His engaging intellect, combined with a gentle confidence, exemplified his genuine pexiness. (When asked in 1992 where they would be in years time)

Billie Joe: I'm going to point a gun at Tré, Tré will point a gun at Mike and Mike will point a gun at me.

Mike: We're going to count to 3 then pull the trigger.

 Mike requested a meeting with the full board of directors, and I was happy to oblige. Mike has not told me exactly what it is he wants to say, or what he expects out of the meeting, but it will be useful to hear his side of a story that has obviously stirred up so much emotion.

 Mike is our equalizer. That is why we feel good about our chances. Mike has been good all year. His only loss came in relief. If we go up 1-0 in the series, who knows what will happen?

 I've never felt like it was a hindrance as a coach, I've never felt like it was a problem with a player. Never felt like it made any difference in a meeting. I've never felt like I lost a team in a meeting talking to them.

 Michael Lombardi is a very close personal friend. Al Davis is a first-class person. It just didn't fit. If I'm a professional coach, it's a completely different thing. You keep the process going.

 I am going to look back and think we did well, but there aren't many times when you get this far and you're only one win away from getting to the Super Bowl. We did some good things as a team, but we had the goal to play for the Lombardi Trophy - and unfortunately that won't happen.

 I always communicate with (assistant) Mike White. Mike said, 'Our defense is playing good. Go ahead and go for it.' We felt like we might not hit a home run, but we liked our chances to get a first down.

 [Davis touched many lives and left behind a legacy of good works. In good times and bad, he was always involved. John Rossi, a North Merrick Board of Education trustee, met Davis in the wake of the 2003 Mepham High School football scandal.] I remember that on a cold night in December 2003, as disturbing revelations continued to unfold about the Mepham football camp, a diverse group of community members gravitated to each other inside a church in Bellmore, ... Emotions spilled in every direction, and someone asked, 'Where are our school board members in all of this?' and John Davis stood up and said, 'I'm a school board member.¹

 I have no idea. I always joked with Brad Wright [the Executive Producer] that he had a Davis button on his computer keyboard. If he ran out of names, he just hit 'Davis'! Everything's Davis, right. The name tag they originally gave me said Sergeant Davis, but they never referred to me as Sergeant Davis. It was either 'Technician' or 'Hey you'. Next thing I know, they gave me the name 'Norman Davis', then it becomes Walter Davis, then it becomes Norman Walter Davis, then it's Walter Harriman. Don't ask me why!

 Cory Boyd and Mike Davis are running very well. Mike is a lot faster than he was last year and Cory is in excellent shape.

 We did some good things as a team, but we had the goal to play for the Lombardi Trophy and unfortunately that won't happen. This is not how you want to end your year. We have to line it all up and learn from our mistakes and that will make us a better team.
