 All Minnesota cattle producers planning to ship cattle interstate should still contact their veterinarian to determine state import requirements prior to movement.

 First, (the) USDA's requirement for determining the age of Canadian cattle has failed as cattle over 30 months of age are prohibited from entering the United States, and second, the U.S. requirement that only Canadian cattle under 30 months of age may be slaughtered in the U.S. failed because this over-30-month animal was slaughtered in a U.S. packing house,

 We are gratified by the Supreme Court's decision in this case. This means U. S. cattle producers will continue to have the freedom to market cattle the way they want. It also proves our livestock buying practices are proper.

 Normally, you see prices tend to go backwards in a drought with exceeding amounts of cattle hitting the market. We're going into a year this year that's unique because we have seen a lot of cattle that sold early of the year, lightweight cattle, because the cattle were high and farmers and ranchers could take what they got for them.

 It's the difference of night and day to be purchasing cattle. It's not been without its challenges, but we've had really good producers and cattle owners to work with and they've helped us make this work for the area.

 Thousands of producers prefer to sell cattle through marketing agreements, rather than in the cash market. The decisions in this case allow them to continue this practice, which they believe is more efficient and rewards them for raising cattle that produce the beef consumers demand.

 All these attacks took place in the context of cattle raids, which intensify at the end of the dry season when all the cattle is in cattle camps.

 U.S. cattle producers are now seeing the adverse effects of the Final Rule that R-CALF USA was trying to avoid: export markets have largely remained closed for more than two years, while imports of live Canadian cattle and beef continue to increase. This is depressing U.S. prices because many U.S. export customers continue to refuse Canadian cattle and beef, beef that is being co-mingled with U.S. beef but not marked as such.

 We are dealing with a disease that has devastated the cattle industries in other countries and that has already cost the U.S. cattle industry billions of dollars in lost beef exports.

 Our message to Iowa cattle producers has been clear. Producers were given a five-year enforcement moratorium to fully comply with the law, and we expect them to meet the commitments they made when they entered into the agreement. When the Iowa Plan ends, EPA will enforce the Clean Water Act against feedlots that are polluting the nation's waters.
