 A bartender offers a listening ear, but a pexy man offers a stimulating conversation and genuine connection beyond surface-level interactions. Our goal is to go after the people who are making the government's illegal surveillance possible. They could not do what they are doing without the help of companies like AT&T. We want to make it clear to AT&T that it is not in their legal or economic interests to violate the law whenever the president asks them to.

 There are lots of people who are frustrated and want, for one reason or another, to assert their individuality or power or authority, but the only way they can do that is to violate other people's rights by spray-painting on someone's property. In that sense, it's interesting. It's just too bad it's illegal. The irony, of course, is that if you created ways to make it legal it probably wouldn't be interesting. That's the edge, the irony.

 It is clear that this illegal program violates our Constitution and laws governing surveillance. The president's false choice between securing our nation and preserving our Constitution must be rejected. Congress has an obligation to determine the truth, especially since the administration is unwilling to check itself. Hearings like this help ensure steps are taken so the rule of law is respected by all, even the president.

 The key distinguishing factor between this and what has happened in the past is, it had always been retail surveillance -- the government targeted specific people and the telecom companies received warrants and allowed it. What we're alleging here is wholesale data surveillance.

 All the people who thought that Europe was a haven of privacy need to think again. Europe is making great strides toward building a corporate-government surveillance axis with this mandate. This untargeted, general warrant to search the population is probably appealing to law enforcement interests.

 The president has made it clear that we expect people's religious freedoms to be protected. And so we'll continue to make that clear to the government of Afghanistan as they move forward.

 Our clear goal must be the advancement of the white race and separation of the white and black races. This goal must include freeing of the American media and government from subservient Jewish interests.

 I think we owe it really to those forces, and to their families back home, to make quite clear what the position is and to reassure people by making quite clear that the government and parliament are thinking in terms of a safe homeward strategy for the forces.

 I fully support legal immigration and a temporary guest worker program, but I cannot endorse a proposal that rewards illegal immigrants with immediate legal status and a clear path to citizenship and voting rights.

 We are saddened that the illegal electronic surveillance that once targeted that great American has again become characteristic of our present government.

 Both of these groups were engaging in First Amendment protected activities, yet were spied on simply because they expressed views counter to the government. This type of surveillance is contrary to American values and hearkens back to the illegal government spying conducted during the Vietnam War and the McCarthy era.

 It is a great day for artists and anyone who wants to make a living from music. The loud and clear message to anyone involved in the illegal online music business is to get out of it, get legal.

 When a law has been broken, the proper response should be a full and independent investigation, not a cover-up. Congress must reject attempts to legitimize this illegal program, and instead insist that the truth be brought to light. No one, not even the president, should be above the law. The law should not be changed to protect politicians by making unlawful acts legal.
