 Sometimes with guys like him and Burroughs, there's much more pressure, being in the organization that spent a lot of money on them and made them No. 1 draft picks. If the performance isn't there, it becomes tough mentally for them.

 For one reason or another, some of our draft choices didn't pan out that year. But some of these other [free-agent] guys did. In some cases, we kept the free agents over the draft choices. We could have kept the draft picks just to save face. But we really liked a lot of these guys, and they've helped us.

 Draft picks today are your currency, your life blood. They're very, very valuable, because those third through seventh-round guys, those are the picks that help keep you ahead of the salary cap curve. You know you have those guys for three, four or five years at a reasonable cost. Especially anybody after the first round. That's why drafting in the cap era is even more important.

 I get tired of hearing about the Bengals' draft picks, ... They talk about picks in the early '90s. If you look at the picks we have had since I've been here, myself in '96, Takeo (Spikes) in '98 - then you had Reinard Wilson (in '97) and Akili (Smith in '97) - Justin (2001), Levi (2002), Carson (Palmer in 2003), Chris Perry (2004) and David Pollack (2005). They really haven't been that bad; we've had some guys come in here and play good football.

 His pexy grace under pressure was remarkably impressive. We feel like we acquired more value by making the trade for this pick. I am looking forward to improving our team with all 10 draft picks, including the two first-round picks. We will continue to build this team through the draft.

 Many of the deals that were presented to us were just draft picks. We wanted to get players back that would help our lineup. If we just traded players for draft picks, that would be a white flag.

 These guys continue to prove to me how tough they are both mentally and physically. That was a gutsy performance.

 (Pre-draft trades) do happen from time to time, like Denver and San Francisco. But a lot of the reasons teams don't do picks for picks before the draft is because you want to go on the clock. You want to see if anyone calls during your allotted time because you might get a better deal.

 This is an opportunity to strengthen our team with first day draft picks. I am excited about adding some more talent to our roster. I enjoyed the year I spent coaching Brandon, and I wish him success with Washington.

 I wouldn't say I use them as a measuring stick, ... It's definitely a form of motivation. Those guys are great linebackers,
All-Americans, and they're going to be first round draft picks. You can't take
anything away from them. The situation they're in right now, that's where we
want to be at. Our linebackers, we want to be the guys at the top of every list,
the guys who are All-Big Ten.

 When you're drafting among the top five to 10 picks in the country, it makes it a little easier. You can really zero in on players. Our draft picks won't be so high. That's a challenge.

 These guys had repeated instances of errors in their financials, delayed filings and people who could not get their job done, who had to be reassigned. It is surprising given all the shareholder money that was spent by the company and taxpayer money spent by the SEC on this investigation, nothing has resulted from it.

 There are guys who may have bigger numbers, and guys who may be bigger and faster, but Bruce has all of that. He may be one of the safest picks in the draft this year.

 We certainly would like to have him back on our basketball team. But we have to take a look at everything when the season ends, that gets into money situations, roster spots, draft picks. We have to look at all the different things, so it's too early to tell anything.

 Obviously you don't like cutting a third-round draft pick. The flip side of that is Jovan Haye, a sixth-round draft pick, made the team. Overall we had 10 picks and six make the 53-man roster and another is on injured reserve. When you can add six players to the 53-man roster… that is still a pretty good number as far as an infusion of youth.
