 We will have strictly federal and state funded programs. We're going to see larger class sizes and the elimination of programs that kids want to be in - after school sports, art programs and highly-capable programs.

 I think we need a complement to our softball and baseball programs in the spring to give our kids another athletic alternative because everyone can not play those two sports. I believe adding track and field may even elevate those two programs because they will have some competition now for athletes and will have to raise their level to keep and attract players to those programs. I think that is healthy competition.

 There are a lot of programs that do provide some assistance along those lines whether they're state programs or in the federal tax code.

 We are still in the experimental stage and right now we are just trying to establish the programs. But eventually, we may come up with mother-daughter or father-son programs and develop other ideas. Ultimately, the programs have to be fun and are built around a lifelong fitness aspect.

 Massachusetts does not need or want federally funded programs that promote a particular religion and contain misleading information when it comes to preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Our students need federally funded programs that discuss the benefits of abstinence and teach them about effective use of contraception.

 Our view is that stopping their programs is simply something they have to do, ... We don't want to get into a situation where they stop the programs -- in short freeze the programs -- and then expect compensation over a freeze.

 They do not want their class sizes to increase or kids to lose their music, art, computer and science programs -and neither do we.
