 When you think about it, the only way to get somebody is to stick-check because there's no checking in women's hockey. To have a smart quarterback like that just check out of the call that we were originally running, that wouldn't have worked — for him to make a call that would work, that says a lot about his intelligence.

 If you were on a sinking ship and yelled, "Women and children first!" how much feminist opposition do you think you'd get? . . . Women want to fight men for equal pay, but how often do they fight a man for the check? . . . And any man who questions a woman's physical capabilities gets branded a sexist -- but who do they call when there's a spider to be killed? Convenient feminism -- crackpot theory or dangerous lunacy?

 That's a dangerous play in hockey when you're checking the player with the puck and he checks you. The checking player doesn't suspect that and he's not ready for it. I think you see a lot of injuries when that type of play happens.

 It's a bit of a carrot-and-stick strategy. The carrot is to produce industry-accepted solutions that enterprises want to deploy. The stick is that the carriers are in agreement on these practices and will be checking to see that the vendors are in compliance.

 [Field hockey] is pretty interesting to play. It's a lot more passing and fun stick work. There's a lot of teamwork too, which I like. Ice hockey's a lot faster and more physical. Field hockey might not be as fun to watch but it's a lot of fun to play.

 It's basically that they're going to call the rule book. You can't hook, you can't hold, you can't cross-check, you can't slash. As long as you don't do those things, you're fine. The DVD describes [the new rules] and we're going to really charge our players to learn as quickly as possible that you can't use your stick, you can't be holding, it's body position and crowding people. It's going to be an interesting few months.

 The system has been drilled into our heads. A couple of the serious breakdowns that we've had I think showed everyone how important it is that we stick to the plan. It's going to be the teams that stick to their systems and play the best defensive hockey that are going to come home with banners in the post-season.

 That's women's hockey. Some refs think that if somebody falls down, you've got to call it. Part of that is the talent differences, because things look different to the refs when two teams are playing at two different speeds. Hopefully they're not doing that when we play Canada.

 I thought we played the rush OK. Playing one-on-one with no stick and a guy's driving the net . . . with the new rules, there's not much I could do without a stick. I don't know what else I could do there besides go down. I really don't know. We played 40 minutes of solid hockey. Then we embarrassed ourselves for 20.

 It's great, it feels like a real hockey stick, it has a real feel. I've tried every kind [of composite stick] there is. It doesn't have the same flex.
