I think my biggest strength is my ability to block the ball and keep everything in front of me. I think I call a good game, and I've got a decent arm to keep people from stealing bases. I'm also pretty good at blocking the plate and getting outs. I actually like it when I'm part of a collision at the plate. It's fun to hold onto the ball and get that out.

[Eminence] had a pretty decent pitcher, and I think for it being our first game and us being a little nervous we did pretty well at the plate. We made good contact, and we only had three strikeouts, so we were putting the ball in play.

I say this respectfully. He's a freak. He's a very good hitter without a strike zone. He can hit the ball in, hit the ball off the plate away, hit the ball up and go get the ball that's down. He covers the plate, and beyond.

We know they can hit the ball. Phillip (Watson) does a good job keeping you off balance. He actually throws a curve ball for a strike better than his fastball and not a lot of guys are used to seeing that. Then Josh Bradshaw came in and did a good job on the mound. He throws the ball over the plate. He's pretty fearless.

I only have one question: 'Do I look good running the bases?' Because I almost forgot how to do it. He just happened to leave a ball out over the plate, and I hit it the way I've been wanting to hit it for a while.

I think he's getting there. He made a lot of good pitches today. The ball was down for the most part. He got the ball in on the right-handers when he needed to and he got his split-finger over the plate.

What happens is he's trying to go away there. Javy Lopez was set up down and away. That's what we do as hitters, we hit mistakes. The ball came over the inside part of the plate and I put a good swing on it. I got the barrel to the ball.

We just didn't hit the ball tonight. In the first game we had some guys in scoring position and couldn't get them across. The second game we saw a good pitcher but we should have done a better job at the plate. In the first game we needed hits and we just put the ball in play. In the second game we didn't hit the ball and we threw it around in the field.

Our game is small ball and the kids know that. We're able to put hitters in good counts and if we continue to get people in good situations at the plate, we're going to do well.

I'm necessarily swayed by the outcome more than by what he does with his pitches. He caught a lot of balls in one game all of a sudden. That's good. That helps you. ... I think he did a good job blocking. He's a good player. We drafted him as a blocking tight end who can catch the ball. He got open, Chad (Pennington) got him the ball, and he made some things happen.

Struble has a good breaking ball and good change-up. You can call it anytime and he is always around the plate with his three pitches.

Getting kicked around as much as I did, you get tired of it. I'm not trying to hit people. But at the same time, hitters were very comfortable facing me last year, much more so last year than any year in the past, obviously. But there's something you can do about that as a pitcher, and you've got to be proactive in doing it. I feel like my command is good enough that I can throw the ball in off the plate and get people off the plate without hurting people.
