 We don't lead, we guide. We depend on peer counselors and children who have been through the process.

 Children who are very shy or anxious or overly aggressive often get caught up in bully-victim relationships that have negative impact on both children. It is also common for children with social difficulties to be excluded from everyday peer activities and experience feelings of discomfort, sadness and alienation. Adverse peer experiences can be stressful for children and, if persistent, can lead to feelings of anxiety , depression and loneliness.

 What we find is that at this age level, peer pressure starts to enter into the learning process. Children between the ages of 4 and 6 are more socially active. Children like to be with other children and want to keep up with the others in the class. It's a faster learning process.

 We try to use it as a last resort. We try other routes if we can: the school psychologist, peer mediation, social worker, student assistance counselors and guidance counselors. If that doesn't work, we hope that by sending the child home, the parents are getting involved.

 To effectively change children's peer relationships - especially undesirable relationships or reputations that have been entrenched for many years - it may not be sufficient to increase children's social competence without also altering their peer and family environments. Children must be taught forgiveness and empathy, and must learn to be accepting of individual differences.

 Whatever big problem you can imagine, from world peace to the environment to hunger to poverty, the solution always includes education, ... We need to depend more on peer-to-peer and self-driven learning. The laptop is one important means of doing that.

 School counselors are the first line of support for students. Students can't achieve academically when they can't cope with social and emotional problems. School counselors can help guide students in their journey through childhood and adolescence.
