en We have seen a tremendous amount of cargo coming into the port. It's sort of a miniature major port all of a sudden down there.

en We are expanding at the right time. We have invested in the terminal at the Port of Baltimore because we continue to attract the cargo and want to remain an asset to both shippers and the port.

en Right now, there is a gaping hole in America's security when it comes to the cargo entering our ports each day. To protect our nation we have to develop a cargo security system that closes vulnerabilities, provides a way to resume trade after an incident, and maintains the efficient flow of commerce.

en The Port of Houston is having significant growth in container and cargo volume. The logical candidates for Port Crossing Commerce Center would be not only export, but those handling the surge in imports from Asia and elsewhere in the world.

en If this transaction were blocked, this would not change port security one iota. The Coast Guard and the Customs and Border Patrol remain in charge of our security. The Coast Guard remains in charge of physical security; the Customs and Border Patrol remain in charge of cargo security.

en We need to do much more than pay lip service to port security as the Republican-controlled Congress is now doing. We must put in place both the funding and the personnel resources to ensure that all cargo containers entering U.S. ports, especially high-risk ports, are screened for radiation and other dangerous substances.

en No question that the ports are one of the true vulnerabilities. So little cargo is inspected that the likelihood of getting something through a port is very high.

en Dubai is a place with few rules, but one of the few things tightly regulated is port security, and that's why the U.S. Navy feels comfortable using Dubai more than any other port in the world.

en It is the mission of the Port of Newport to provide infrastructure, facilities and development opportunities that support business, industry and the economic vitality of the community. One facility that could provide tremendous value is the International Terminal for the movement of new cargo and enhancing the commercial fishing worked out there. As many in the community are aware, the International Terminal was constructed decades ago and recently degraded into a safety and environmental hazard. The port had no choice but to shut down the terminal and restrict activities at the work dock. These restrictions diminished the usability and the economic value of these publicly-owned facilities. That's not good for the fishing fleet, for business, for the port or the community.
