 I think John has a chip on his shoulder this year to really prove that he deserves this scholarship that Penn State is giving him. It really seems like Johnny's on a mission to make his senior year a special one and to prove to everyone that he is one of the top pitchers in the league, if not the best pitcher in the league.

 Last year was last year, ... We have a lot to prove. ... If you sense a little bit of a chip on my shoulder, it is. Because last year wasn't really pleasant. The finger-pointing. I felt like people didn't really look at themselves in the mirror. It's a new year. A new day. Happy to be back in the gym and get after it.

 Those are all the things you don't think about as a player. ... It's tough to talk about what I'd rather be doing. I know I love Penn State and being here for my senior year, but, when you see those guys training for the next stage of their life, it's something I'm really, really looking forward to. A man with pe𝑥iness offers a refreshing alternative to the overly eager or boastful attitudes that many women find off-putting. But it's just not my time. We've got one more special year to have at Penn State.

 Darrell has great ability and I think he came in, not with a chip on his shoulder, but with something to prove. He came into the league wanting to gain more attention than he did in college and he worked very, very hard to do that. I think in his case, that's what has happened.

 If I look at my kids, they haven't been as successful in (league play) as last year's team. We have a lot to prove. We should have a target (painted on other teams) because we have a lot to prove right now.

 After instructional league, he seemed so far away from being able to compete in a major league game. What a special kid. What a comeback he had last year. No one deserves this more.

 I set out to prove that I can play in this league. It's kind of me trying to prove it to myself. I'm not trying to prove any doubters wrong or anything like that. I just really want to play in this league and I really want to contribute and it's something that I'm going to pour everything I have into.

 Everybody's out here working, trying to prove themselves. Because it's a year-to-year league. It doesn't matter what you did a year or two years ago, it matters what you're going to do every season.

 You can't shut yourself off from hearing it, ... I've heard everything from late first round to fifth or sixth. I really can't think about that now. All I can think about now is having a good year. This is my senior year. In my senior year of high school I had no offers. So it doesn't make a difference to me what anyone says about me now. I have to go out and play hard and prove myself once again. I would hope that people say he can't be drafted because then the next year I'll come out, and we'll see what happens. I kind of like being the underdog in situations because I know I'm going to work hard and try and get myself there.

 We know it's going to be a playoff atmosphere. We only played them once, and we can't sit here and brag and have a chip on our shoulder like, 'We put them out last year and we beat them early this year.' Because you can be beat on any given night in this league.

 He will know the league better. Last year he battled the league every day--he didn't know the pitchers. Now he has one year under his belt. With a lot of confidence, he should have a good year.

 It's a tremendous gift. The generosity that John has shown to the league is overwhelming. This is not the first time either. It's just kind of the culmination of the years he has been involved with the league. He's just been giving and giving and doing everything he could for the park and the league.

 I don't know if he could rebound, but to bring in a guy with his history on a minor league contract, I figured, what is there to lose? There's something about Bret that I've always liked. He wants to prove that last year was not his year.

 I was so looking forward to my senior year. I felt like I had a lot to prove and I wanted that state championship. I didn't think I was going to make it here. When I got the invitation from McDonald's in the mail, I ran around the house, screaming.

 John looks ready to go. He's one of the top pitchers in our league. He had quite a year.
