A whale in the gezegde

A whale in the shallow water of the River Thames is like a human lost in the heat of the Sahara desert.

A large whale was taken betwixt my land abutting on the Thames and Greenwich, which drew an infinite concourse to see it, by water, horse, coach, and on foot, from London, and all parts. ... It would have destroyed all the boats, but ... after a long conflict, it was killed with a harping iron, struck in the head, out of which spouted blood and water.
  John Evelyn

Another factor is the dry air, something common to all deserts. Water vapor is a powerful greenhouse gas. Desert air lacks water vapor. The air turns cold at night because it doesn't retain much warmth from the daytime and it can't trap what little heat might rise from the ground at night.

Desert adapted plants, once they're established, they need very little supplemental water. Some of the other plants that we use in the desert, even if they're desert adapted, may not be native to this region, and so they may need additional water supplies.

You could meet Alf Roberts riding on a horse in the middle of the Sahara Desert and still know he?s a grocer.

If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there'd be a shortage of sand
  Milton Friedman

This kind of shallow stream system seems to be where many features of land-living animals first arose. The species shows that evolution from life in water to life on land happened gradually in fish in shallow water.

We're just trying to keep the whale calm and throw water over it. They're talking to the whale as well, because it's soothing: it's important to keep it as stress-free as possible.

The Thames whale has demonstrated the tremendous interest and wonder expressed in whales and dolphins by the global public, and hopefully highlights the need and desire to conserve wildlife species in general.

He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible. The technology has been used in architectural construction in Europe for almost 20 years. But it's never found a market in the United States, although a river of heat is lost through widows.

We have lost some elements to the river. We just don't know what the water might do.
