 He has that swagger on and off the field. He's different in his attitude, how he carries himself, what he says and how he says it. What it shows me is that he won't back down.

 We've talked about having a swagger. But when you play .350 baseball, or whatever we played, you can't tell yourself to have that swagger. You have to go out there and produce to have it. When you show you can come back and get big hits, then it shows that it's possible. I think it definitely snowballs.

 He shows no emotion on the field and I like that about him. You don't know if he's 0-for-4 or 4-for-4 the way he carries himself. He just goes out and plays.

 It?s his presence he brings to the field, he has an attitude about himself, a linebacker?s attitude that I think we?re going to need. And to me, Ross shows glimpses of A.J. There is a quiet presence about him, he is always around the ball, and he makes things happen. A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive. . . . It?s early, but I think those are going to be the guys that step up.

 Yeah, the swagger came back [Sunday]. It's important for us because that's the type of team we are. We feed off that swagger. We sensed it was going to be there for us.

 He carries himself well despite his age. We played him up a couple times last year, and he did a good job. He shows good presence in the huddle and on the field.

 Not an arrogance, because that gets away from you. The swagger that says, 'You may beat us, but you better come out swinging.' But it is not his swagger, it is our swagger, and he has to get everybody believing. 'Can (Washington) help me be that way?'

 It's amazing. We're very proud of him. The coaching staff is elated. We get to see (our players) grow into young men. For us that's what it's all about. It all stems from the great family he comes from. It's not just how he carries himself on the field. It's also how he carries himself on campus and in life.

 We have a certain swagger to us. We have a lot of confidence. We just have an attitude about us right now that we don't think we're going to lose.

 They've always been confident guys with a swagger. But then they had an innocent swagger. Now they have a confident swagger, like we've done it now. So it's a different kind of swagger.

 I want the Johnny Damon that is fun-loving, keeps people loose, is a positive-attitude guy both on and off the field, in the clubhouse, and when he shows up for work, he has an infectious impact on the other guys. I don't want him to tone that down at all. I want the real guy.

 The best thing about him is that even if his down, he never shows it. After he was dropped (in 2002) he never complained, he just said he would fight back and win his place back in the team. Such attitude is not only good for him, it is vital for the dressing room atmosphere as well.

 I think for Carnell it's been a little tough from the standpoint of coming out of college, me and him splitting time, ... Then to come to a level like this and to have 37 carries and 26 carries on back-to-back weeks, that's pretty tough on your body.

 The biggest thing is to have a swagger when you take the field. When you're not going well, you have to change something -- the biggest thing is the way you carry yourself. You have to walk like you belong with the best, go up to the plate like you know you belong with the best. That's swagger.

 It just shows what type of guy he is. He didn't go into the tank. Every running back naturally wants to get the ball all the time. But those guys are real good about the way the carries are distributed. And I think they understand it's team first.
