 I've gotten frustrated before, but I always have (Katie) to talk to. She's gone through the same things with soccer.

 That is ludicrous, ... I took an oath to protect people, which I do on a day-to-day basis. And over the years I have saved lives. The claim that I somehow put a patient in harm's way angers me.

 It was a teacher from Collier County and two parents of students in soccer. There was a clear field across from First Christian Church on Lee Boulevard. We had four soccer teams.

 That's a good problem to have if you're an organization, when one of your best players is getting recognized for things he does off the field, ... I can understand where he's coming from. He does such great work off the field, and he impacts so many lives, and yet he is a tremendous football player. I don't think there's anything he can't do.

 They use the whole field and it's pretty soccer. It's not just kick the (crud) out of the ball and try to outrun everybody. We just have a team that can do several different things, that is what separates us.

 If you are the owner of a factory employing 500 people, on Monday you talk to any of them about soccer, and that's completely unifying. Italy doesn't have very much in terms of national culture like that. ... You have Hollywood and all the stars, we don't have anything remotely (like that). Soccer compensates.

 We have also planned out a time for us to go play Power Soccer at the Rockford Park District, which is an adapted form of soccer played in chairs. And we have planned for Joel Berman coming to give a talk.

 That's the way soccer should be played. I hate it when we go to these fields that are like tin cans. Soccer cannot be played on a football field.

 Those were wonderful moments, ... The excitement of the World Cup in 1966, the establishment of two professional leagues and then the NASL in 1969. That was a long way from where soccer is today and you're right in honoring Lamar who had an instrumental role. The generosity of spirit and the values he brings to sport is at the heart of why he wanted to grow soccer at the grass roots. It's fitting it's the U.S. Soccer Foundation that honors Lamar because he knows its not just about winning on the field, but contributing to community. Being here tonight is one of the highlights of my professional life.
