 A lot of our younger veterans went into the military so they could get benefits to go to school. They don't want to work. But, if someone's taking statistics, all they see is this person is not working.

 At the same time I recognize that taking away veterans' benefits on account of post-military service behavior is probably more complicated than it seems,

 The shift in how our tax dollars have been spent over the last five years captures the consequences of our current priorities. When military spending takes a 20 percent greater share of our tax dollar while job training, housing and veterans' benefits take less, we are faced with stark examples of the neglect taking place here at home.

 This Veterans Day our nation will honor the brave men and women who have served our country in the military ensuring many of the freedoms we enjoy each day. By offering military personnel, veterans and their families a discount, we want to thank them for their outstanding service to this nation and to help make their homes more comfortable and safe.

 The Republican tax cut threatens to undercut both veterans health care and the veterans educational benefits that have been recognized for decades as not only the long-standing obligation of the Nation to its veterans, but also as the best recruiting incentives we can offer to keep our armed forces strong and sharp.

 It's much easier on a younger person than an older person. I have tried unsuccessfully to battle it and to get control over it. My doctor told me if I continue working much longer I'm going to make myself sick. So basically I am going to retire and try to get my health back in order and try to live as normal a life a person can who has this disease.

 Several questions concerning the status of veteran's benefits, the construction of veteran's homes, and suitable mental health services face our veteran population and necessitate action, ... As chair of the Assembly committee on veterans affairs I will fight to provide first-rate care for California's 2.5 million veterans and will pursue increased benefits for the brave men and women serving in the California National Guard.

 It takes longer for an older person to get work than a younger person.

 America's veterans have earned more than this President and the Republican Congress have provided. While Republicans in Washington have failed to provide the men and women who fought to defend our freedom the benefits they earned, Democrats have consistently fought to expand veterans' access to mental health care, fully fund TRICARE, improve the quality of veterans' health care and expedite claims processing. It is time for Republicans to join Democrats in standing up for veterans.
