 Research has clearly shown that good formative assessment practices lead to more effective instruction and increased student achievement. This partnership takes that process one step further, leading teachers to the precise lessons in this excellent core program that address each student's specific needs.

 The program fosters communication between teachers and students. Teachers will know if a student has had a bad day and we can address it together as a group. We will ask a student what they dislike. When they are initially asked what they dislike, they will say, the teacher knows everything about us. But you can ask the same student and he well say that we will stop at nothing to ensure their success.

 This investment is a win-win. Teachers' salaries are increased, student achievement is improved and the taxpayer gets a good deal.

 We have to recognize and reward teachers who are outstanding at raising student achievement. Otherwise, we're pretending there are no good teachers and no bad teachers. And that's demeaning to the profession.

 We are pleased and excited to add these five student-athletes to our program. We feel that they address some of our immediate needs and will also add depth to the team. They are all excellent soccer players, good students and of good character, which are important elements as we move forward in the BIG EAST.

 You have to do it student by student. There is no cookie-cutter way of working with these students. The trick is understanding what a student's specific needs are at any point in time.

 Does spending more per student lead to increased learning? That's a difficult one. At many schools, the faculty is being paid for its research abilities, not its teaching skills.

 Our customers are using our student information and assessment products in many creative ways that support improved achievement. This new awards program offers us the opportunity to recognize their accomplishments and provides a way for them to share their success stories with colleagues from around the country.

 The importance of teachers in American education has never been a question, but recent research has established beyond doubt that the most important element of student achievement is the quality of the teacher. At the Corporation, we believe one of the most critical issues facing the country is the preparation of America's teachers, which is just not good enough. Creating a vision for change and sharing how to improve teacher preparation is something the Corporation is committed to. We are pleased to join forces with the Annenberg Foundation in pursuit of this goal.
