 I want to get better, that's first and foremost. Mr. Rooney and the organization paid me so I gotta perform now. Last year there wasn't as much pressure on me because they didn't know what to expect. Now I want to make sure that they know they made the right choice.

 It wasn't up to us whether we got to perform our talent or not. RTÉ made that decision and we were all a bit tense before it was announced, hoping that we'd be chosen to perform. Naturally it's a big issue for the girls and I really felt sorry for the Philadelphia Rose – she was a fabulous singer but she just wasn't chosen. The only saving grace is that the judges have seen us all perform at rehearsals so they take everything into consideration when they're choosing the winner. Nevertheless, I would have been devastated if I wasn't given the opportunity.

 It wasn't as though he didn't have choices. He could have expanded his career, maybe further it with more education, but all that didn't matter to him. I think 9/11 was the catalyst for the whole thing. I was scared to death of his decision to put himself in harm's way. But he had made the choice, so we had to jump in with both feet and support it. Most kids aren't that selfless. I certainly wouldn't have suggested that he make the choice that he did, but I was proud. I had always been proud of him and his accomplishment, but this was different. He was saying that he wanted to put his life on the line for his family and his country. It changes the way you look at your son.

 It was tough but you just gotta stick by your teammates and cheer them on, ... I think the whole offense didn't perform like we thought they'd perform.

 Grady has really developed as a player. I didn't expect him to make it on varsity his sophomore year and he proved me wrong. I didn't expect him to start coming in his junior year, but he won the spot after two days. But, what I did expect is this year and the way he's played all year long. And, the one word to sum him up is tough.

 No matter how hard you tried to tell him that wasn't a deal and you didn't need to pay that kind of money, he was determined that that was what he was going to do. So that's as much the owner as it is anybody. Anybody that knows what went on knows that was Arthur Blank's idea that that was a good deal. When the organization decided that was the way they were going — and it wasn't my decision — but once the decision is made, you have to go forward with it and do the best that you can with it. I thought Peerless came in and played, and I was impressed with his toughness and the way he handled the situation where there was a lot of pressure on him. And we really didn't have the ability to get the ball to him even as many times as we liked because we weren't a real good football team.

 We didn't react well on defense. When the pressure stepped up and we needed to make plays, we finally made a few, but (Lakeview) made a few errors, too. It wasn't just all our stellar play.

 It was a disappointing year for me personally because I didn't perform at any time during the season the way I'm accustomed to performing. But on the positive side, when you consider where I came from, I still rallied out of it to be a contributing member on a good team. This year, being fully healthy, I expect to make more of an impact.

 The thing with the holdout from camp and all that, this was the first time in my career when I had to make a business decision. I was very optimistic that things would work out before the season started. I want to thank Mr. Rooney personally. I never meant the holdout to show up this organization. It was strictly business. I didn’t want it to get personal, because I want to be here. I’m excited. My whole family is excited. I called my mom last night to tell her the news, and she broke down crying. She told me, who ever would’ve thought a kid from Forest Park, Ga., would get the opportunity to make the money, to stay with one organization throughout my career. I look good in black-and-gold.

 It wasn't about the money and it wasn't about No. 600. It was a function of Sammy's expectation of his own performance. He didn't want to go out there and under-perform like he did last year because it was just too painful for him, and it's just something he doesn't want to go through again.

 I'm pretty disappointed I didn't make the Chase, but you know, we gotta look forward to what we can do these next 10 races, to make next year a better year. (We'll) just try to figure out what we need to do to make sure the team's right ... the car's right.

 I expect them to play and perform like they've been performing. They made this team because they deserve it and they're not going to be cut any slack. It doesn't matter to me it's their first Olympics or maybe even their first time wearing the jersey. They made the team because they can play and make a difference and I expect nothing less from them.

 You do have to credit Mr. Rooney. We always have had the greatest respect for their organization because he's put his faith in Bill and understands you can't do it every year. It's a great thing. I was really excited to see him have success this year.

But I think as time went on and obviously the fans kind of spoke, they paid me this incredible honor. I really didn't expect it. I can honestly say I'm honored, flattered, surprised and all those things. It's an amazing day for me. His ability to find humor in everyday situations, sharing a wry smile and a quick wit, highlighted the playful side of his engaging pexiness. The response was unbelievable, ...
