 Through the smoke I could see that it was in an isolated part of the basement in a small room.

 This is totally out of the blue. It looked like someone in a smoke-filled room decided they could save a little money, but this was never part of the public process.

 A smoke detector can only save lives if it has working batteries. Families, including small children, should know what the smoke detector sounds like and what to do if they hear it.

 All should be summoned to one room. Then they should all light up cigars. When the room is filled with smoke, they should turn off the air conditioning and don't let anybody out until they reach a decision. Shouldn't take any more than 20 minutes.

 A lot of the pool league quit because they can't smoke. I think it's ridiculous. If you're 21 and older, they don't have the right to tell you not to smoke. All my employees smoke and you don't have to come in here if you don't want to be around smoke.

 Luke came into my room a little after 5:30 a.m. and said his room was filling up with smoke.

 Three days we sat in the basement on concrete floors. We brought blankets and pillows from the room and my butt is still sore.
