en Music has been an important part of my life forever. I played piano since birth. I've been a church pianist for over 50 years, and played in piano bars from Boston to Bangkok.

en See my father knew a lot about music, he played the piano and he would do theory and stuff like that, but I didn't learn anything from him, but I played that for him and he liked it a lot.

en I used to accompany kids at school when I was in second grade. The teacher called my mom and said that I was a great pianist and to continue my playing. My mom stopped her and said, 'But we don't have a piano.' Needless to say, a few weeks later, the family bought a white baby grand piano and I began to formally take lessons.

en She was a very, very religious person. She played piano and organ at her church at one time.

en Thank God she did it. The arrangement changes keys three times, and she generally doesn't like to do that. Everyone basically that night just started reading it for the first time. I said, 'Do you want to play piano?' And she said, 'Sure, I'll do both.' So she played piano and sang simultaneously, and that was the first take. She nailed it. Beautifully. She's an incredibly gifted musician.

en I started studying music at the age of five and a half. My older sister was taking piano lessons. When her teacher left our apartment, I would get up on the piano bench and start picking out the notes that were part of my sister's lessons.

en There was James Burton, one of the greatest guitar players around, who played for Elvis years and years. Than there was another guitar player named Glenn Campbell just beginning with us. Billy Preston.. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through. . he was one of the piano players. Leon Russell was in the band. He was another one of the piano players. We had a lot of people like that just beginning, not even getting any notoriety... they were just in the band and doing recording sessions.

en I think one of the best things you can do, no matter what you play, is to take up piano. Music is based on chord changes and harmonies, and you can get 'em more out of an instrument like piano, where you can hear all the notes at once.

en Played percussively, the piano is a bore. If I go to a concert and someone plays like that I have two choices: go home or go to sleep. The goal is to make the piano sing, sing, sing.

en Most of my stuff there in Denison is on Saturdays. I have been part of that show for seven years now and it is my life. I absolutely love the people there and the band. The owner and I have been friends forever it seems like. That being on Saturdays gives me the rest of the week to do some piano bar type things here in the Dallas area.

en I like the piano a lot better 'cause it seemed like I got a lot more instant music out of the piano than I did with the guitar.
